Well, It's Worth A Try

This is my new "grocery list" diet plan, based on the idea that if you don't have it handy, you can't eat it.

No matter my good intentions or what is on my list when I go to the grocery store I always seem to pick up a few extras that I don't really need. I'm not a very good shopper to start with and I am  a real sucker for those end cap displays that always seem to tempt shoppers with less healthy items. I'm thinking that maybe if I give myself instructions about what not to buy I might be more successful in avoiding impulse buys.

Oops, I forgot to add "no ice cream", and I may have to re-think that "no M&Ms thing, but at least it is worth a try.

Do you think it will work?

  1. Stay around the outside of the store to buy your food! Not like me.

  2. I'm a sucker for those things too, Jeanie. And everything that says "new" I'm a sucker for too. I like your reasoning, Jeanie. Maybe pretend you are on a budget and you don't have money for those items (and then take the money you safe for not buying those things and use it for something fun, like a new accessory or book or whatever :)

  3. I was in the grocery store today (and I was STARVING at the time). In a moment of weakness I went by the in-store bakery and was gonna purchase a box of cookies "to get me through". I saw the price was $5.99 for that small box - and kept on walking. It was a temporary incentive because later I remembered I had some mini chocolates in my purse...I think your idea is better than mine!

  5. I no longer shop at all. Hubby does it all and he is very good at it, because he likes to comparison shop. He almost always sticks to the list I give him.

  6. Good luck with that! Putting no in front of those items makes me want them more : )

  7. LOL I love your shopping list!
Another tip when grocery shopping: make sure you are NOT HUNGRY when you do the shopping.
It's too easy to grab the 'naughty' stuff when you are hungry.

  8. My current addiction is Stacy's Simply Naked Pita chips. I try not to buy them, I really do. Then I open them on the way home and eat half the bag before traveling the 16 miles home.

  9. Ha! You are just like me. I make a list and swear it's all I'm buying. Several bags of groceries later, I do the Walk of Shame through the parking lot ;-)

  12. Not even reading it on the list would make me NOT buy ice cream. haha
Hope it works for you though. :)
Sorry I've been absent here, it's getting busy at work and our internet sucks lately (on, off, on, off!!).
    Hope you are doing well!

Last night I made my husband drop by Paradise bakery so I could buy 1 chocolate chip cookie!

  15. Probably is smart to write the NO list -- I don't do that and should! I'mm trying to eat down my fridge and cupboards and just buy essentials (like Tab.) Sometimes it works better than others.

  16. It's a good start. My husband has such good self control, but not me. Ice cream is my weakness. Good luck on your shopping expeditions.
