Six Word Saturday

Happy 60th birthday to Mr. Potato Head

Image from Google Images

It is hard for me to believe that this dapper looking spud turned 60 this month, but it is true. In my opinion Mr. Potato Head is looking pretty good for a sexagenarian. I guess the secret to looking young is being able to plug in a new nose, new eyes or new lips whenever you want to.

Maybe She Just Really Likes Current Events

Sid the Science Kid is the current favorite show of my 4 year old granddaughter, EJ.

I was staying with her for a while on Monday and she wanted to watch her favorite show. I let her watch one episode and she asked to watch another one. I told her I thought one episode of Sid the Science Kid was enough.  "Okay", she said, "maybe we should just watch the news".

Maybe this 4 year old really likes to keep up with current events.

I think it is more likely that she was clever enough to think that if the TV at least got left on to something she thought I would like she would have a much better shot at getting to watch Sid again.

No Welcome Mat Here and Opening Day

Our front porch is not looking very welcoming these days. There is a welcome mat there, but it is buried under a thick sheet of ice.

Some sort of drainage problem in the gutters causes daytime melting to drip over the edge of the gutter which freezes at night on the walkway and porch. We have researched various solutions all of which will apparently cost thousands of dollars. It is yet to be decided if we will go for the fix or just wait for spring. In the meantime, you are welcome to visit....you will just have to come in through the garage.

My 9 year old granddaughter, Hope, after six weeks of rehearsal,  finally had opening day for her current play yesterday. It all went well and I think it is relief for the entire crew to get the first performance done. The play will run for 5 more weeks.
There are no pictures allowed during the performance, but in addition to their work on stage the cast also seats the audience when they come in, takes lunch orders and serves lunch after the play ala adult dinner theater. Their director tells them that every aspiring actor needs to learn to wait tables

Hope's 17 month old brother Beck missed the play yesterday due to an eye infection. It is not contagious, but it is rather unsightly.

Since this picture was taken he tripped over a toy and hit the same eye. He now has quite a shiner under his eye to add to his tough guy look.

I Didn't Know He Could Take The Lid Off

16 month old Beck was asleep in his car seat and 4 year old EJ was in her seat coloring when my daughter, Joanna, stopped at a friends house to deliver some Girl Scout cookies for her other daughter, Hope. She stood outside the car talking to her friend for a couple of minutes. This is what she saw when she opened the car door.

Beck seemed very pleased with his artwork. EJ told her mom , "I'm really sorry, mom. I just thought he would want to hold a marker, so I gave it to him. I didn't know he could take the lid off."

Apparently EJ was wrong about that.

Sisters

Sisters is probably the most competitive relationship within the family, but once the sisters are grown, it becomes the strongest relationship.  ~Margaret Mead

My two daughters, Jill and Joanna at 4 and 9.

Two of my granddaughters, Joanna's daughters, Hope, 9, and EJ, 4.

My daughters Jill and Joanna are 5 years and 8 months apart in age. Joanna's two daughters, Hope and EJ are also 5 years and 8 months apart in age. Jill and Joanna, of course, had plenty of conflicts growing up as Hope and EJ do now. Hope and EJ will be very fortunate if they can grow up to be the very best of friends like their mom and aunt grew up to be.

Having a sister is like having a best friend you can't get rid of. You know whatever you do, they'll still be there. ~Amy Li

Friday Fragments/Freewheeling Friday

To participate in Friday Fragments visit here

It has been a little while since I posted anything and I wish I had a really good excuse for that like a fabulous vacation  or something. The truth is that the most exciting night out I had this week was a school fundraiser at Chick-Fil-A. Actually I did post an old lady story/joke earlier in the week but it seemed to have offended someone so I took it down.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It seems like Puxatawney Phil got it right on Ground Hog Day by predicting another six weeks of winter. At least for around here he got it right. We had about a foot of snow overnight and it is still coming down, with another 8 inches or so predicted.  Everything is closed and I'm seriously thinking that I won't be going to work this afternoon.
I don't think our neighbors will be doing any al fresco dining any time soon.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

A note to a few of the houses in the neighborhood: It's February-it might be time to take down your Christmas lights, or maybe switch out the bulbs for a little Valentine's Day decor.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Uh oh, someone is shoveling our driveway right now. If a snowplow comes down the street before noon I may be going to work after all.
