Freewheeling Friday

A little get away trip is a great thing, but catching up afterward is not near as fun. I went back to work Thursday and played catch-up all day. I'm still trying to catch-up with my unpacking and laundry, a result of my overpacking for a short trip. (Am I the only one that feels like everything has to be washed after a trip, whether you wore it or not?)  Trying to catch up on blog reading is a little more fun, but I still haven't made much progress. Woo hoo for Freewheeling Friday so I can catch up on emptying a few thoughts out of my head.

One of the highlights of my short trip was getting to meet another blogger.  Donna, from Mystical Journies and Discovering The Purpose of Our Lives and her husband, Jerry, made a special trip for us all to be able to get together. Jerry kept insisting that the drive was quick and easy. I'm sure it was meeting Doc and me and not the casino where we all stayed that made him so eager to come. Neither Doc nor Jerry "get" the blogging thing. As it turned out Doc and Jerry talked and talked just like Donna and I did and it was really great meeting them. So much fun!

Donna and Jerry

Thanks Donna and Jerry, and we look forward to seeing you again in May.

In the spirit of public service and being a multi-purpose blog I want to remind everyone of something I knew earlier but forgot until today. Taxpayers will have until Monday, April 18 to file their 2010 tax returns and pay any tax due because of Emancipation Day. That is day the slaves were freed in the district and it is observed there as a  holiday which falls on Friday, April 15 this year.  By law, District of Columbia holidays impact tax deadlines in the same way that federal holidays do. Therefore, all taxpayers will have three extra days to file this year.

The holiday in DC reminds me to suggest one of the best books I've read in a long time, The Warmth of Other Suns by Isabel Wilkerson. The book chronicles the experience of three people who were part of the migration of about six million African Americans from the Old South to states in the north between 1915 and 1970. It is not a comfortable read about a part of the history of the United States, but it is a very interesting, enlightening and well-written book.

I want to thank Belle at Tales From A Loser for giving me the A Blog of Substance award and at the same time apologize to her for taking so long to thank her. I really appreciate the award and I really enjoy every visit I make to Tales From A Loser. Thank you, Belle.....you a a real winner.

In the spirit of playing catch-up, I am trying to get a little ahead by posting my Freewheeling Friday a little early....on Thursday night. Maybe by Saturday I will be all caught up.

  9. I not only wash everything. I bring it in toss it in a garbage bag, spray it with insecticide (I'm just a little fixated on the whole bedbug thing), let it sit for awhile and then I wash everything. Yep, I already know how twisted I am! Heeheehhee!!!

Congrats on your well deserved award sweetie.

God bless ya and have an amazin' weekend!!! :o)
