I Think My Brain Is Fried

I think my brain may be a little bit fried. There has been no air conditioning in my office this week and the temperature was in the high 90s today. We can't open any windows and the nearly floor to ceiling glass just serves to add to the sauna effect when the sun shines.

At least that is the excuse I am using for this post of random  thoughts.

School supplies

When I went to school and when my kids went to school the list of school supplies included things like paper, pencils, spiral notebooks, folders, 3-ring binders, and usually a box of Kleenex. This year I've read about kids being required to bring things like computer paper, dry erase markers, Clorox wipes, liquid soap, sandwich bags and toilet paper. Yes, toilet paper. I know that schools need to conserve funds for teacher salaries, but toilet paper? What kid can't wait to show up for the first day of school toting a warehouse size package of toilet paper?

Typos

I hate it when I leave a comment on someones blog and immediately see that I have made a glaring typo. Two college buddies, Benjamin Herson and Jeff Dick apparently hate typos even more than I do. They set out on a trek across America with the purpose of finding and correcting typos, misspellings and grammatical errors on signs along the way. When they found a typo they would stop the car and try to find the person to talk to about correcting it. Though they met with some resistance, they were often able to correct the error on the spot with their "typo correction kit". They tell their story in their book The Great Typo Hunt. I say "you go, guys"

Addison Update

If you haven't met Addison, you can click on the logo on the top of my sidebar.

Addison has just begun a particularly difficult two month phase of his three year treatment for Leukemia. They have been told to expect nausea, low immune system, fatigue and possible hospitalizations during this phase which is called Delayed Intensification. Please keep this very brave little boy in your thoughts and prayers.

  2. My school days are just a blur... I just remember starting off each year with a new box of crayons. The excitment of using them in their perfect splendor made my day. I had no life back then, either!

  3. Back in the day I think mine consisted of rounded scissors, a big Red Chief tablet, two #2 pencils and a box of crayons. As a retired educator, I know a good part of the meager teacher's salary take home pay is sacrificed for necessary classroom supplies.

The fix on the sign just cracked me up!

My prayers as with that handsome little Addison dude. What a sweetheart! :o)

God bless ya and have a beautiful day sweetie!

    How things change.
I can´t believe you actually found a picture of a brain frying. LOL I can´t imagine working in an office with such heat and no AC! That must be hard. And the smells....

  10. Continued prayers for Addison.

I've been hearing about the unusual school supplies this year. IT's a shame our education system is in such a mess.

    Hope your weekend is great.

  11. Thanks for the update on Addison. His hair is back. Yeah. Brave little boy. Soon kids will bring a mop and a vacuum to school and spend time cleaning since there won't be enough paid teachers. We do live in a developed country where we pay taxes. Don't we?

  12. I would go nuts if I had to work in those temperatures!
Toilet paper? That is taking 'school supplies' too far I reckon!
Poor kid, I hope it's not too rough for him and his family. Fingers crossed he is cured soon.

  13. definitely praying for Addison and all who are helping him.

School supplies, our school is anti-chemical which means no dry erase markers or clorox wipes, lysol etc., the staples that always killed the germiness of schools.

I am proposing face masks for everyone to wear unless the school institutes UV lights to clean all surfaces.

I know I'm a bit Howard Hughes about germs, but he was on to something.
