Name That Blog

Name That Blog

I am intriqued by the name of  many blogs that I see. How did the writer come up with that name? What does it mean? Why didn't I think of that? Some, of course, are fairly straight forward  like, The (insert name) Family News or  Life With The (insert name) Family. Some are descriptive of the writer's place in life or their career or a hobby that the writer loves.  Some are fun or funny and others give a sense of artiness or angst. Sometimes the name of the blog and the content of the blog are cohesive and sometimes not. In the long run it is the content of a blog that keeps us going back, but I'm still curious about how some of the names came about.

In my first post I explained the name of my blog this way:  At 61 years old I often think back and wish I could remember more about myself or my children or some event or activity....all those years and all those things that brought me to today. .....Why "Living Consciously"? I am, like everyone, getting older and I hope, like everyone, that continues for a long time, so I want to do it the best I can. I feel like one of the keys to that is to live consciously..... Maybe blogging will help me along that path.

I think blogging has made me pay more attention and be more conscious of things going on in my life. It has also joyfully opened up a whole world of what others are paying attention to. It is often those things that others are paying attention to that has helped me to live more consciously.

How did you choose the name for your blog?

Do you still like the name you chose?

Are you enticed to read blogs you come across by what they are named?

  2. Jeanie..
    Mountain Mermaid..
I am a Florida beach girl..raised on the panhandle in Pensacola.. love the water..and all it aspires for me..avid fisherman since tagging along with my dad at age 5,love the serenity of a morning sunrise on the beach or equally well while waiting for the first bass strike on a cool foggy morning..
I've traveled the world, seen many sunrises and sunsets from many beaches..
none compare with that of my native soil.
I've a jar of the sugary white sand that has accompanied me everywhere for the past forty years..
each time I return home to Florida, a new ziploc brings replenishment for the jar at home.
while on the beach, I'm sure to sprinkle sand in my shoes, put a shell in my pocket, both to assure my return..
I consider myself a Mermaid..at home above, on or in the water..
I now reside in the Mile High City of Denver Colorado..
The Rocky Mountains are every bit as awesome to me as the Emerald-Turquoise Gulf waters of home..
My blog was created initially to fill a creative void..
I am an avid photographer..amateur yes..but love my Nikon and Kodak..
Since moving to Denver almost six years ago,I've learned my way around Denver, marveling at the myriad of opportunities to record the beautiful. stately old homes, the gorgeous array of flowers and the bustling life of this wonderful city..
I had been posting my photos to a site where I learned from other photographers. Then one day, the format changed, and I grew disenchanted with the site.
To fill the void, I decided to Blog about my adventures here in Denver, accenting with my photos..hence the name Mountain Mermaid.
I post equally about Denver as the beaches of home. There are enough crafty and decorating blogs, as well as those for young moms and empty nesters...All have one single common thread..
the blog is uniquely them, and the expressions of themselves.
I've met so many nice folks here in Blogland, some I've actually connected with in real life..
The most amazing thing of all.. they are just as down to earth, nice and delightful..just like I thought they'd be!
    So..welcome to my world!
    warmest hugs, laughing smiles..

  3. I am always intrigued about names of blogs and it is usually the name of it that catches my eye to want to check it out

I've had a tumultuous blogging history over the years and have had different names; my first one was Of Minipaws and Menopause (the dog was the mini paws, you can guess who was the one going through menopause at the time) Then when we moved to California, I did a Corgi in Southern California. Then I gave up blogging for 14 months and came back with Koda's Corgi Tails. Then I did "A corgi tells a tale" but settled in with A Corgi in Southern California. Since I write a lot about the dog and since I am very protective about my privacy on line, it works for me to have my profile be his profile and other than his name and my name used, I don't use anyone else's name in my blog, either their initials or make up other names for them

I like the name of yours; thanks for explaining how you came up with it

  4. I named my blog 'Diet Coke Rocks'... purely because I love diet coke and it's pretty much all I drink!
I have a private blog too and I named it "Pepsi Is Yuk".... cos I don't like Pepsi! LOL

I have even named my car "Roxy" in keeping with my blog name, and it's number plate is DC ROX!

I like how you came about your blog's name too.

  5. Since this is my second blog, I really thought about what to name it. The first one was pretty spontaneous and had my name in it. I realized that that was not something I wanted anymore. But since I was going through midlife and figuring other people might find an interest in it too, that´s what gave me this idea for the name. I think I can cover many topics under this name and it´s fits me fine. :)

  6. P.S. The name? For those that don´t know: "A glimpse into midlife"

  7. I wrote a post recently telling how I decided to call my blog TechnoBabe's Adventures. My husband was then my boyfriend and when I stopped using a Windows computer and got my iMac, I was learning some new things and boyfriend would encourage me by saying "way to go, TechnoBabe". So when I decided to start my own blog he said why don't I call it TechnoBabe and I added Adventures because I feel like I have lived so many adventures, good and bad in my life. The names of some blogs does spark interest for me to check out the blog; your blog was one as I liked the name Living Consciously because it reminded me of some of the things I was working on in my codependency recovery. It turned out that your blog name did not let me down, your blog is interesting and I am here to stay. Conversely, some nifty sounding blog names are not interesting posts in my opinion.

  8. I see some really long comments here
My reason is so boring...daughter was helping me set up a blog
she asks what to name it...I have to think fast...and come up with the name...she wasn't going to wait forever(o: We use Kinz in our email address...which is not our real name, but close (o: I am Grammy and I hope I smile a lot so there ya go. I look at other names and think they are so cool...just another thing to be envious of (o:
Yes I sometimes go to a blog just because of the name...like one on you list... Cow Patty Surprise you have to look there (o:

  9. How and why did I name my blog, Mystical Journeys? Odd, but I had not even read a blog. I knew nothing about blogging. I wanted to blog.... I knew that. One day, while with a bunch of girlfriends in a stamp store...I was snooping around and I saw a fairy stamp. I LOVE fairies...and the name just popped into my head...Mystical Journeys. I decided then and there, when I do a blog, that will be the name.

About three months later, spending the night with my sister, I shared I wanted to do a blog. I got on blogger.com and figured out how to create one. Luckily, the name was available. I planned on sharing thoughts, doing some writing and posting some of my art....

The next day, while staying with my Father, I woke up to find him passed out on the living room floor by the front door. I called 911 and he ended up being admitted to the hospital with pneumonia. During the process, his paranoia, delusions and dementia became very pronounced and it became clear he could not be left alone.

My siblings and I had to take a crash course in admitting him to a nursing home and learning about Alzheimer's in the process. Mom was away on a trip. My blog became our journey with our Dad and his Alzheimer's.

  10. When describing my response to my new grandbabies, I often said I'd known people who were blissed-out grandparents but had never really understood how profoundly wonderful it could be. My blog began as a simple chronicle of kid stories, hence the name. I write more for myself now, but the name shows that I'm a woman of a certain age, and usually more upbeat than snarky.

  11. If I had to do it over again I'd be much more creative in selecting my blog name and I'd never mention being in my 50s, cuz I'm inching closer to my 60s ;-)

Your blog name is good. It says a lt about you but opens the door to learn more.

    Happy weekend,
    jj

  12. I used Eternally Distracted because I felt it was the best way to describe me... as I am relatively new to bloggyland I was amazed the name was available!! I'm definitely glad the blog kings let me have it...

I often find a new blog simply on the fact that I like the name.

  13. Cute idea to ask this question. I like the name of your blog. It implies you are a thinker and observant. I like that. I named mine Fresh Fixins because it sound southern and I live out here now. I say I'm fixin to cook or bake or clean or garden--but I'm fixin to do something or say something. That's when I thought of Fresh Fixins because you really don't know what your going to get. I could be talking about darn near anything! I love blogging and reading blogs and meeting people thru their blogs it's just such a cool thing to do. There are so many interesting and talented people in the world!

  14. When I started my blog, I just didn't think that I would need a name! (Studpidly...) So there I was about to publish my first post.. and had no idea if I was even going to continue with my blog, so I named it On a quirky quest to sum up what I wanted to do. Everyone knows me as Lady Fi so now I wish I had called it Lady Fi instead!

  15. http://thebacksofmyeyelids.blogspot.com/2010/04/weekly-bleat_10.html That post tells the origin of my blog name.

It will never change. I like it.

I'm quickly drawn to blogs with great names or names that speak to me.

Your blog title brought me here in the first place.

  16. I used to write an email to a group of women trying to lose weight. I would write it mid week hoping to keep them inspired til the next meeting. One day I looked at the email I was writing and realized I was babbling. When the women in the group told me that my emails could help inspire others and that I should start a blog, bobbies babbles just popped into my head. On another note, on a recent visit to Florida, I passed a hair salon in Miami called "Snip". I loved the simplicity of that name. As PJ says above, your blog name brought me to you.

  17. Most definitely I'm attracted by the name of a blog. Some I just have to check out because of the name.

I wrote a post on my blog on how I came up with Cow Patty Surprise called " Yippee Tie Yie Yay - Cowpatty." It involves a little girl with a huge imagination and cow patties.

God bless ya and have a marvelous Monday!!!
