Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. April showers bring May flowers, or so the saying goes. When did you last 'shower' attention on someone or have attention 'showered' on you? Did you love it, or did all that attention make you squirm?

We have neighbors that we visit with in the evening from time to time. He is a very good host, always asking if he can get you something, freshen your drink, find a more comfortable chair and on and on. I sometimes feel a little "squirmy" from all the attention, like I have somehow let him down because I don't really need anything.

2. Share a favorite 'spring break' memory. Not talking about just the 'college spring break' thing, but any favorite spring break memory you'd like to share. Keep it family friendly please!

A very family friendly memory is of a ski trip spring break in about 1979. It was a very fun trip until the last day when I fell on the ice in a parking lot and broke my tail bone. I had to lay in the back of the van on the trip home from Angel Fire, NM to Midland, TX., and it was about 6 weeks before I could walk right. I still get twinges in my tail bone if I sit in a hard chair for too long.

3. It's National Pecan Month...are you a fan? If so, what's your favorite dish that calls for pecans?

I am a fan of pecans. I like any kind of dessert with pecans, but I especially like chocolate chip cookies chock full of pecans.

4.  'Put all your eggs in one basket', 'egg on your face', 'rotten egg', 'walk on eggshells', or 'a good egg'...which egg-spression could most recently be applied to your own life?

This is my favorite egg-spression.  I have it on a magnet on my refrigerator,  a gift from a friend many years ago.

5.  In my experience___________________________________.

In my experience the best way to deal with getting older is to do it with a very good sense of humor.

6. What's a  favorite song with the word rain in its title or lyrics?

The first song that comes to mind is Gene Kelly's Singin' In The Rain, but if it counts Somewhere Over the Rainbow would be a favorite.

7. What does the word hope mean to you?

This one is easy for me.....since my oldest  granddaughter is named Hope.

8.  Insert your own random thought here.

Like so many I am very glad this past winter is at least mostly behind us.

  1. The first thing that came to my mind was a friend named Hope! :)

I like your attitude about getting older; me too! And the "slightly cracked" answer for #4 made me smile!

  2. Hi, Jeanie! I never heard of the Wednesday Hodgepodge blog challenge before but I enjoyed your answers. I had an uncle who loved to play host, but he always overdid it. He kept giving you food and drink even though you didn't ask for it. It made me squirm because I didn't want to turn it down and risk offending him. The two egg expressions that I remember being used most often in my family are "rotten egg" and "a good egg." My father introduced me to both. I'm in total agreement with you about keeping a sense of humor as we age. Two of my favorite "rain" songs are:

"A Lover's Concerto" by the Toys

    How gentle is the rain
That falls softly on the meadow,
    Birds high up the trees
Serenade the clouds with their melodies

and "Summer Rain" by Johnny Rivers

Summer rain taps at my window
West wind soft as a sweet dream
My love warm as the sunshine
Sittin' here by me, she's here by me

Have a wonderful Wednesday, dear Jeanie!

  3. I love the name Hope! Your spring break memory sounds fairly miserable. I've heard that injury is extremely painful. It's nice to see you in the HP today!

  4. I love your random thoughts!

    Me? I'm a good egg.

And it's been ages since I had a break, spring or otherwise!

  7. Well, that was a nice little 'get to know you more' post.
I "walk on eggshells" in my own home lots!

  8. I enjoyed reading your hodgepodge of entries. I do love pecans. I once had a friend who had an aunt with a pecan tree in the yard. We always had lots of pecans. That was great.

I broke my tailbone clear back in high school. It bothered me for years, but I think I finally got beyond that. Who knows? Everything hurts at this age. ;)

  9. I like your egg-spression.
Over the Rainbow is a favorite song of mine. I just recently discovered Eva Cassidy's version.

  10. Ouch with your parking lot accident all those years ago Jeanie! Hope you didn't have too far of a ride home? Hope is so lovely and I heard the violin is a difficult instrument to learn so good for her for "tackling" it. Love pecans, probably my favorite nut. And so true to have a sense of humor as we age; I'm finding its good to laugh a bit when challenged with something that was so easy before (like trying to get up from a seated position on the floor).

  11. Too bad about your tailbone accident. Thank goodness I have never broken any bones. As for eggs, I love egg casseroles and spinach quiche. And as for RAIN, I love that Burt Bacharach song, Raindrops keep falling on my head.

  12. Now we know all about you. I'm also uncomfortable with too attentive hosts. Just leave me alone, I'm fine is my motto.

  13. My daughter was crazy about Prince therefore I had to be put off by him. This post made me research the lyrics of Purple Rain and they are nice and much less complicated than pop rock today.

I never meant to cause you any sorrow.
I never meant to cause you any pain.
I only wanted to one time see you laughing.
I only wanted to see you laughing in the purple rain.

Of course "Hope" is easy for me too since my youngest granddaughter is Hope:)

Is this eggs-actly what you wanted?

  14. Yep, I',m not a huge fan of the hovering host/hostess.
"Have You Ever Seen the Rain" by Creedence Clearwater Revival is high on my list.
I think your answer to No. 5 is perfect.
My wife's pecan pie is worth fighting for.
"For You are my hope, O Lord God; You are my trust from my youth" (Psalm 71:5)
For whatever reason, Spring Break was never a big deal around our home.
