I Think I Might Be Turning Into A Christmas Slacker

Here it is just a couple of days before Christmas and I'm really not feeling much stress at all. I think I might be turning into a Christmas slacker.  It's not that I don't have plenty that I need to to doing and maybe stressing about at least a little bit.. All the gifts are bought and wrapped so there's no stress there, but I do have about 35 or so people coming here for Christmas Eve that I have to prepare food for. Oh well, the food is all bought, some of it is prepared and the rest will have to wait until tomorrow. I'm pretty sure that if I wasn't turning into a Christmas slacker I would be worrying more about it today. I think the sure sign that I am, indeed, a Christmas slacker is that I am not all concerned about this stain that I just found on my table cloth (just left of center at the bottom of the picture-it is worse than it looks in the picture). As a Christmas slacker I just figure that it will be covered with platters of yummy food so there is really nothing to worry about.

Another thing that helps me stay stress-free is that the really important part of the food for Christmas Eve, the baking, is being done by my daughters. They spent all day yesterday and most of today baking dozens and dozens  of cookies and making candy and and all sorts of other Christmas treats.  These goodies along with the wine, egg nog and so forth that Doc has bought will mean that nothing that I have to prepare will matter that much.

Lots of sugar cookies, my favorite, mostly kid decorated.

Joanna still has a smile on her face even after two days of baking.

Beck was no slacker when it came to checking out the Rice Krispy wreaths.

One thing I don't want to be a slacker about is
wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas.

Whatever your plans are I hope you have a wonderful
and stress-free day.

  2. You do not look like a slacker to me - but even if you are it's okay.

  3. Dear Jeanie, With 35 people coming you are definitely not a slacker! Eat a cookie for me. Merry Christmas to you and your family.

  4. I actually see no slackers, only workers filled with cheer.

And Christmas says, "Ready or not, here I come!'

  5. I love it!! Your attitude is the right one. I too am having people over tomorrow and am not really stressed. Of course the real work begins on the actual day, but till then we try not to freak out.
The cookies Joanna and her sister made look great. I'm sure the kids had fun helping.
    Merry Christmas dear Jeanie!

  6. You are no slacker. You are having this get together at your house. I am going to the kids house. I have already passed the torch. I think that about says it all. Have a great time!!!

  7. Wow, that is a lot of people! I am expecting 20 or so guests. We'll see who shows up. My sisters have a habit of bringing friends to my party, so I don't know what to expect. Anyway, it is pot luck.

Merry Christmas, Jeanie! Aloha from Hawaii!

  8. I'm a Christmas slacker because we're having our Christmas party on Thursday. My brother's family are working on Christmas! Can you believe it? As for the cookies, the neighbors have brought boatloads of cookies and we're up to our ears in yummy looking treats. Watch me on Wednesday though. I'll be stressed then. :-)

  9. Nope. Not a slacker. Having 35 people over means you are a doer. Meanwhile, taking things in stride, not stressing over the small things, letting others help...all those are great strategies for coping and for enjoying life. Have a great Christmas!

  10. Pass the Peanut Butter Kisses cookies please! (Love, love, love those!)

I'm pretty sure you're not a slacker, just very organized, which is great and envious, since I was doing 11th hour wrapping last night ;-)

    Merry Christmas! xo jj

  11. I am, as you can guess, catching up. And let me say that I laughed when I read the first line of this post because I had christened myself "Slacker Elf" this year. Slacker-wrapper, slacker-shopper, definitely slacker-baker (you are so lucky to have elves who like to bake!)

But it got done. I didn't go crazy so I enjoyed it all the more. And no one said "You only made one kind of cookie this year." (Well, two with the Christmas Eve cookies.) No one had work said "Where's my present" when I just brought in the aforementioned single cookie baglet for each. They were happy. I was happy.

I hope the rest of your Christmas was just terrific! Happiest to you!

  13. You have the right attitude! I love it. I especially love your attitude about the table cloth. Isn't nice to get a little older and not let those things bother us?

I love the cookies too, but it is time to let the younger generation do all the baking. I did not bake one cookie this year. We all survived.
