Luckily No One Was Hurt

Early this morning a predicted 1-3 inches of snow was falling lightly as I was on my way to work...a little slick but no real problem. An hour or so after I got to work the light snow turned into a heavy snow. We heard a loud  bang outside and looked out to see a very big Coca Cola delivery truck jack-knifed across the median, and another car up on the sidewalk, apparently in a successful attempt to avoid being hit by the truck.

This isn't the truck, but it looked about like this, leaning slightly and spanning all four lanes of the road.

Several amazing things happened. The first is that no one was hurt. The second is that before we could grab our coats and run out the door to help so many people had stopped and jumped out of their cars to offer aid that there was nothing more we could have done. The third is that as we watched out the window we saw the truck driver and the women who had been driving the car that went off the road walking around holding hands.

A couple of hours and a big traffic jam later the truck and the car had both been towed away and I was still thinking about all the people who had stopped to offer help and about the two people who had joined hands in relief instead of screaming at each other in anger.

  3. Glad no one was hurt, Jeanie, and that so many came to help with the accident! I like that the two drivers involved were kind and compassionate to each other and chose to be like that. We got into an accident about three years ago. A young woman rear ended us (I think she was texting). We were on the freeway and it was a pretty big jolt we got. Anyway, we were really kind to her afterwards; I think she was so sorry about it all. What can you do after it happens? Yelling at her wouldn't have taken back anything. When we finished up with all the exchanging of information and the highway patrol officer said we could go, we gave her a hug and wished her the best. First thing her insurance agent said when he called us was that she was hoping we were okay and that she thanked us for our kindness about it all.

    Be safe on those roads!

  9. That is a good positive story!!!
my DIL was headed to flat Irons about 12:30 (my comment here would be WHY???) She had 4 year old S.in car too. They past an accident on 287 and Highway 52.... this morning the paper shows that it ended up with one dead and 2 in the hospital. She took a side road that was narrow to go around the wreck and there was another car off the road and someone stopped to inquire and then there was almost a huge pileup involved there.Sometimes it is just better to stay HOME!
Glad your story ended the way it did.

  11. Hi there, I knew there were lots of accidents yesterday. It reminds me of when we moved here five years ago-two moving trucks and two cars driving I-80 during storms and seeing tons of semi's over-it was so scarey. I didn't realize how stressed I was until a few years ago I was in a car in town during a blizzard and was so freaked. Glad I wasn't down by you yesterday.
    Hugs, Noreen

  14. That is so neat. Too many people would have been mad at the truck driver, when clearly it was just an accident.
    Lucky no one got hurt.

  16. Phew! So very glad everyone was okay. That could have been a terrible accident.

And isn't it wonderful that mankind can still surprise us with their kindness. That's the best art of this story.

Thanks for sharing Jeanie. xo jj

  17. So very, very glad no one was hurt. It's a little scary driving out there these days. Our unseemly spring has disappeared into the winter that is due us. Lovey, but a little scary on the road.
