It's A Good Thing

It's a good thing I didn't make a new year's resolution to blog more often. If I had I would have already failed at keeping that resolution. Between going back to work after the holidays and family activities the first week of the new year has sort of flown by.

Most of the family activity involved celebrating the birthday of one of my granddaughters. EJ turned 4 on Wednesday but we started the festivities on Sunday with a family get-together which included cake and ice cream for EJ's birthday.

On the day of her birthday it was out to dinner at her favorite Mexican restaurant. She wasn't quite sure what to think of the giant balloon cupcake hat the balloon guy made for her.

On Friday she had a birthday party with her friends.

Her sister Hope and her cousin Anna were glad to help her celebrate again.

Her mom Joanna made a very cute pony cake.

Even with a little help with the gift opening it was all a little overwhelming.

For a girl with a birthday just a few days after Christmas I'd say she got well celebrated.

The other resolution it is good that I didn't make is to not do too many posts about family activities. That is another one that would have been broken quickly. The reality is that when I started a blog I started it as a way to help myself record and remember the events and activities in my life and a great deal of what I do and what is important to me involves family. It has become much more than that due to the wonderful and interesting people I have gotten to know through blogging and the friends I have made, but chances are that the family focus here won't change much.

  1. Your blog is lovely, Jeanie. I never miss a chance to read it. What strikes me is the number of natural blondes in your family. There are very few blondes in Hawaii, since the majority are Asians and Pacific Islanders. Lol.

  2. EJ is a beautiful girl and what a great birthday she had! Your daughter is very talented at cake decorating. If I were working, I would never be able to blog as often as I do.

  3. She is adorable! I like family blogs...I think that's what mine is mostly but I veer off from time to time. Have a nice week!

  4. That horse cake is awesome and way better than that cupcake hat-- I'm glad you told me what it was ;-)

I enjoy your family posts and like your photos so keep 'em coming. It's easy to tell your family is important and meaningful to you and it's a pleasure to read about them.

    Happy Birthday EJ!

  5. Oh, she is a doll! You're right, family is everything, isn't it?

  6. Hey Jeanie, just forget the resolutions and be the best you can be each day. That would be amazing anyway.

You can tell it is sort of overwhelming for her. Nice photos and I am impressed with the pony cake.

  7. Yeah same here. I´ll be posting again, but I keep forgetting I´m doing it just as much for me, than I am for my blogging friends. I love reading about your family. EJ is just the sweetest and I see she had a good birthday.
All the best to you this week Jeanie!

  8. What a perfect cake for the cutest little birthday girl ever!

    Happy, Happy Birthday princess EJ!!!

Looked like ya'll did her birthday up right.

God bless ya and have a fantastic week sweeite!!! :o)

  9. Great BD cute. Love that last face (o:
I can't imagine keeping up a blog without family updates...I love yours.
    RETIREMENT (o: Happy for you!!!
We do need to get together for Jan. When we could do that? A Monday? You tell me what days you have.

  10. Looks like a fun birthday for the lovely "birthday girl". They grow up fast!

It is a beautiful day here in Kansas. Sure doesn't seem like winter time!

Hope it is nice where you live!

    Love, Linda

  11. What a cutie- patootie! Happy 4th to her. Her Mom should start a cake baking business. Your Grands are lovely, Jeanie.

  12. I've noticed that many have posted a bit less over the holidays, and that virtually all the grandmas have spent most of the time writing about family. Nothing bad about any of that! It's good that the birthday girl doesn't get overlooked because her day is close to the holidays!

  13. Happy B-Day, EJ! We always spend several days celebrating, too. Love makes the world go round, correctamundo?

  14. What a fun birthday! That balloon hat is something else!

  15. What a fabulous birthday party. That balloon cupcake caught my eye too. I'll bet my granddaughter would have loved that too. EJ is such a beautiful, sweet girl. You can just see her adorable personality in that photo.

  16. I love posts about family activities. It brings us together into a community of loving people, happy families. The world needs to see this -- all it can!

  17. EJ is adorable. My Put Pie is going to be 4 this year. Crazy!

  18. EJ is so precious no wonder you post about your grand kids...I can only post about one of my other daughter will not allow me to post their names or pictures...

I think your blog is very successful... you have met great friends, interesting people and established the priorities in your life.
