Friday Fragments/Freewheeling Friday

It has been a good week in many ways and a not so good one in others. Almost every night I have started (or at least thought about starting) a blog post, but never quite followed through with it, so I am (again) combining all my little thoughts in a Friday Fragments/Freewheeling Friday post.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
One of the things that has kept me from posting has been reading lots of other people's posts showing all the beautiful Christmas decorating they are doing in their homes. So far, I have done no decorating so as much as I like seeing what beautiful things other people have done it makes me feel a little deficient. I will probably do some decorating this weekend and my grandkids will come to decorate my tree on the 11th. The kids decorating my tree is one of my favorite family activities of the season.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I recently showed a picture of my grandkids drawing names for Christmas gift giving this year. I think it is going to turn out to be a really good plan. They all seem very invested in getting just the right thing for the cousin who's name they drew. Eight year old Justin has already selected and wrapped the gift he chose for 1 year old Beck and placed it in the spot where their Christmas tree will be. I would love to hear the conversation between 3 year old EJ who is going to call her 7 year old cousin, Wil, to find out what would be the perfect gift for him.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My good friend Carolyn found out this week that she has thyroid cancer and lung cancer. They were both discovered during a routine doctor visit for something else entirely. I am in awe of the courage and strength she is showing in the face of this diagnosis. I can only pray for her full recovery and that I can be of help to her in some way.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Wouldn't it be interesting if Herman Cain's wife had a blog?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Two women were having afternoon tea in a fancy restaurant. One of them looked across the room and said  look at those two old women over there....that will be us in 10 years. You *&a;*#@, her friend responded, that's a mirror.
  1. In spite of what you wrote before, the joke at the end had me howling. Ah, poor Mrs. Cain. I'm afraid I have no patience with husbands who cheat. That is why I left my first husband and it was a good thing I did since he was never faithful to the rest of his wives.
    I pray your friend will recover, Jeanie. This must have been such a horrible shock! Life can be so hard sometimes. God Bless.
  2. I think drawing names is the best way for kids to exchange gifts. They will have fun shopping.
    I am sorry about your friends diagnosis. Such a scary thing.
    The joke is priceless.
  3. I would love to see Ms. Cain's blog too!
    And no worries - I don't have one decoration up yet either.
    I am so sorry about your friend and I'll be praying.
    Love,
    sandie
  4. Our grandkiddos drew names for awhile and could only purchase presents at the dollar store. It was a blast when they were small. Now my grown kids just get the other family something all kiddos and use. Like a game.
    Sweetie, I'm so sorry about the bad news on your friend. Know I will keep Carolyn on my heart and in my prayers. She sounds like an amazin' woman and a great attitude goes a long way in the fight.
    God bless ya and have a beautiful week!!! :o)
  5. That joke is hilarious! I wondered how it would end. Lol.
    Sorry to hear about your friend's poor health. Hope she beats it.
    I haven't decorated my house yet either. I'll probably put up the tree this Sunday.
  6. Well...I did put up decorations...they may not be beautiful though (o:
    I need to wait for a date when the Grands can come do the tree!!! Bravo for you!!
    So sad about your friend. I just got an email 5 minutes ago saying that one of Rich's cousins (we just saw her Thanksgiving) died this morning. Not sure what or how or why yet... but she has had health issues. SAD
    I always think that woman in the mirror is my older sister (which I do have). (o:
  7. I'm no where near ready for Christmas, either, but I'm feeling better about it, seeing how many others aren't.
    So sorry to hear about your friend. Such sad news around this time. I'll be keeping her in my thoughts.
    Have a great weekend!
  8. I'm sorry about your friend. My brother has gotten some similar news, which I haven't managed to write about yet. I loved your comment about Mrs. Cain and that closing joke. And the cousins all working so hard to get just the right gift...that is very sweet.
  9. So sorry about your friend's cancer. That must have been a real shock! Bless her heart. I am sure you will be there for her. That will help.
    I have ideas for my decorating but haven't pulled everything out yet. I need hubby to help me, and he had plans for today. But soon!
    The joke at the end is funny...but too true. I sometimes look in a mirror and wonder how I got this darn old! I feel young at heart! But my body feels otherwise! Ha!
    Love, Linda
  10. I'm laughing at the joke (and about Cain's wife having a blog!) Happy decorating, Jeanie!
  11. LOL with the joke, Jeanie. So sorry about your friend, what a frightful diagnosis to get especially close to the holidays. It is interesting how one receives news like this and carries on with strength and courage and another falls apart completely. I think just being there for her and knowing you care will be of immense support for her!
    I think that is cute with the kids drawing names for cousin gifts! It will be fun to see what they get each other!
    I'm so with you about Herman Cain and his wife if she blogged. I would imagine it would be quite interesting to read her side of things.
    I know you definitely will enjoy your get together with tree decorating come next weekend!
    enjoy this weekend!
  12. LOL! That is so funny, I think that too when I pass a mirror.
    I haven´t decorated a thing yet, either. Just can´t make myself do it yet. Maybe the girls will have time to help next week.
    I´m so sorry about your friend! That is a devastating diagnosis! I will pray for her.
  13. Now, that was funny! Loved your joke.
    It is so hard to keep up with blogging this time of year. I am determined to read all my blogs tonight. I love to catch up on reading, but sometimes I just don't have the time.
    We will decorate tomorrow; I hope. The tree has been up nearly a week, so I must get to it.
    Enjoy your decorating.
  14. Loved this Post - all chatty and such.
    First, I'm so sorry about your friend's diagnosis. What a shock. There are no words . . .
    Guuurl, I'm not decorating in a BIG way this year - but I think that's alright. Christmas is about the heart and not-so-much about the house, doncha think?
    Love the story about the women. Oh my!
  15. Well first of all, don't beat yourself up on the decorating! Decorating is what you decide works for you. It can be sublimely simple. Me, I tend to go overboard, only this year I can't like I did before. Attitude readjustment. But bit by bit, things are happening. A few lights stuck in the punchbowl with some ornaments, that sort of thing. The trees will be up, but maybe just with lights. And whatever happens will be OK.
    I'm so sorry about your friend. I can tell you from our experience (or rather that of Kid Greg, Cousin Brian and SIL Heidi) that the thyroid cancer isn't much to worry about. Slow growing and very curable. The lung cancer sounds like another thing altogether. What can you do? Just be there. Rides to therapy, a dinner now and then, a listening ear. Something tells me all of those are already in your arsenal!
    Happy December, my friend
  16. Ha, love that joke about the mirror.
    Sorry to hear about your friend, it is so hard to feel helpless. I have a friend struggling with breast cancer right now and I wish I could do much more to help her.
    ReplyDelete
  17. Oh my goodness! Thyroid and lung cancer? That's awful. Thyroid cancer can be dealt with more easily, I think. However, the lung cancer will be a challenge. We'll be praying for her.
    How dumb could Herman Cain have been to think he could get away with all this? Don't politicians know the media will find out? Then again, look at Newt! He's high in the polls. People have forgotten (forgiven) all his misadventures.
  18. If I were Herman Cain's wife, I would have a blog, but it would be tough, because I'd write about murdering him and then get caught.
    Your poor friend. I'll pray for Carolyn tonight (though that list is sure getting long)!
    Loved the joke :)
    Thanks for linking up! Have a great weekend!
  19. I'm so sorry to hear about your friend Carolyn.
    We haven't put up our decorations either!
  20. May God keep Carolyn and those that love and care for her in His eyes and the palm of His hand.
    I said a prayer for her this morning.
  21. I love what your grandkids are doing.
    We used to do that with the adults in our family, but I persuaded them to change things up a little this year.
    You'll have to read my blog post to see what we're doing-lol!
    Sorry to hear about your friend...courage and a strong will combined with faith and prayer can see her through this.
    I'm visiting late from Friday Fragments.
    Hope your weekend turned out well!
