Doc, Dodger, Donuts and My Diet

Every Saturday morning Doc and Dodger get in Doc's truck and go out and about. I don't always know where they are going but one stop I always know they will make is at the donut shop. Before they leave Doc always asks me if I want a donut. Most often I use my best judgement and say no thank you.

It seems that my no thank you is not what Doc wanted to hear. Lately he has quit asking and just started bringing me a donut. Not just a donut, but my favorite donut, maple cake.  Saying no thank you  to a donut that is still sitting on the shelf in the donut shop is one thing. Saying no thank you to a donut being handed to me on a napkin is something else entirely......it is, in fact, pretty much impossible for me. I'll just say that self-discipline and will power in the face of temptation are not my strong suits.

Shortly after we got Dodger his vet and I got Doc to agree that donut holes are not a very good addtion to Dodger's diet. I'm afraid Doc may have had his fingers crossed when he made that agreement. When Doc came in with Dodger to bring me my donut a few minutes ago, I noticed Dodger licking off something around his mouth that looked a lot like sugar sprinkles.

Now I guess I have to figure out how to get Dodger down to the basement with me to do a little extra time on the treadmill.......right after I eat this donut.

  1. I see you also have one of those husbands. As soon as I say I'm counting calories Bob begins stacking the refrigerator freezer with ice cream, my favorite food.

  2. That is so stinking HARD when people get you something and you don't want to disappoint them. I am so mad at myself for the way I have been eating lately. really pam...REALLY. Do you want to do this to yourself. No I do not. Even if a Turtle coffee is out of this world.
Sorry about the rant. It is just a subject close to my heart (o: I am surprised your doggie doesn't have the runs after that. Hmmmm .... who would clean that up?

  3. Oh that IS hard! Art will sometimes offer something he knows I just can't pass up, but then he'll make me walk it off. You'll have to work on stopping Doc from loving you off your diet.

  5. LOL! How sweet though that he does bring you a donut!! (they don't get it, do they, no means no and you say it so kindly too!) Do tell Doc though that sugar and dogs do not mix and he doesn't want to end up down the road having to give Dodger insulin shots! (although I have to say that I did feed Koda too much, I always avoided sugary things)

Good for you though for trying to keep on a diet!!!

  7. Doc's mistake was in giving Dodger the donut hole too soon before getting home. If he wants to cover up the evidence, he needs to allow more time between Dodger eating it, and arriving home, so that the lip licking is over and done with by then. If Doc needs any more advice on this, let me know. I'll hook up with him directly. You know....man to man.

As for your donut, I don't blame you. I'm not sure I could resist my favorite kind if it was handed to me either.

  9. Oh dear! Not good for Dodger, as the vet says... And as for us, how hard to avoid that sugary temptation!

  10. When Doc hands you the donut do you have to eat it in front of him? You could give him a thank you peck on the cheek, take a bite and walk away and then throw the rest away. How would that work for you?

  11. That is so hard. I know how ya feel. My hubby shops and I tell him to not buy pop...but he always does...and then I drink it! But if it is not here I don't!

Maybe they like us plumb! ?????

    Happy Sunday!

  17. I was at the vets the other day and they had this thing that said an oatmeal cookie is, to a dog, the caloric equivalent of our eating an entire, loaded cheeseburger. On the other hand I'd say five minutes of play for a dog is the equivalent of our running the Boston Marathon.

  18. oooooooooohhhhhh donuts. I can't remember the last time I had one...probably over at my daughters a couple years ago. Her husband always gets a box of them and leaves it on the kitchen table for his boys.

When I used to work, I would stop for a Dunkin Donut and coffee and savor it all the way to work.

I'm with you. Tempation right in front of you...IMPOSSIBLE! I had to laugh...I can just see Doc and Dodger in Doc's truck and both of them with their mouths jam packed full of donuts!
