Freewheeling Friday

I wasn't sure Friday would ever get here this week, but it seems like it has. It has been a week where I had something after work every night with little energy left when I got home to do anything but go to bed. It's been the kind of week that calls for Freewheeling Friday, a multi-tasking catch-up post that lets me give my head a good shake and empty out the couple of random thoughts that have been bouncing around in there.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There is no question that the shooting of Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords is a terrible tragedy and a big news event. Along with everyone else I wish her a full and complete recovery. I don't, however, feel like every step in her recovery and rehabilitation is any of my business. I wince for her every time I hear a news report discussing things that should be private to her and her family. I don't think it is the public's business that her catheter has been removed. I wish the media would allow her to recover in the privacy she deserves.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

One of my nights out this week was to attend a fundraiser for my 10 year old grandson's baseball team. The team members worked as servers at a local restaurant in exchange for a percentage of the evenings profits.

He was a good sport and did his part, but his level of enthusiasm for this kind of work leads me to believe that a career in food service is not in his future.

Just like sometimes happens in the non-cyber world, blog friends come and go it seems. Lately I have been missing some blog friends that I have read and heard from for a long time. I know that some have just stopped blogging and a couple of others have gone private and I wasn't invited. I'm not near brave enough to e-mail and ask for an invitation. I have also made some new friends that I am really enjoying getting to know and one who was gone for a while is now back, much to my pleasure. I guess all I can do about the ones who are gone is wish them the best and say thank you for the time you spent with me.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I have a few more thoughts that I think I will empty out of my brain right into the trash. It is a beautiful day here with temps predicted to be in the 60s. Monday is predicted to be in the 20s, so I'd better enjoy today while I can. Thanks for listening.
  1. I get so sick of the media. We, as a nation, are just too nosy.
    I just cleaned out by reader and saw that certain people haven't blogged in 6 months to a year.
  2. I'm glad you made it to Friday, sounds like an incredibly busy week that you have had. I agree on TMI about the congresswoman. It should be a private thing. I don't watch the news but once or twice a week simply because they report so many things that I am not interested in.
    Blog friends do come and go, it's just part of it. I'm glad you are still here.
    Have a great weekend!
  3. I'm still here, Jeanie. I have a "family" of the original blogger friends that I had at the beginning of my blogging experience. It's always sad when somebody decides to give it up, but there's lots more people out there just waiting to be discovered.
    I agree with you about Gabbrielle Giffords. I wish we could give them some peace and privacy.
  6. I have noticed the same thing, that some bloggers have called it quits. I always wonder when someone just leaves without giving a good reason or saying goodbye. It´s great to have a "family" (like Kay) of bloggers that you can count on and they are the backbone of my blog and who I write for. You are one of them.
    I hope you have a relaxing weekend!
  8. The media 24/7 news cycle is just nuts. Remember the 6:00 news that lasted only 30 minutes?
    I know what you mean about blog friends too. I'm always glad to hear from you!
    A funny thing I've noticed: no matter where we are in the world, most of us are blogging about similar things; how much we love our families, how grateful we are to have good friends and how we wish for a better world for our children.
    We all want the same things. I find Peace in that.
  9. The media talks on and on about so many things that are really nobody's business. Makes me spend time over on TV Land watching old Bonanza episodes. I'm a faithful reader, but a fickle commenter...I'm glad you're still here!
  10. I have often thought, "I would hate to be famous." You are right, it is none of our business.
  11. Grandson looks so ...bored... but still so cute. Sure he would rather be throwing a ball or some such thing.
    The blogger thing is funny. When you loose contact with people...you just gotta wonder??? I have one lady that I wonder if she died. Sounds dumb... but she was older and lived alone and seemed to really love blogging. She really liked my Grandkid stories and sent me special tidbits like a picture she drew about one story...then after a year... gone... nada... I really would like to know???
  12. Wow, that's a great idea for fundraising. Not only do the kids appreciate what's required to finance the things they love, they also gain some valuable perspective on what it's like to be in the service industry. Even if it's never an industry they work in, it's definitely valuable to be able to fully appreciate the work of people who do.
  13. So true about privacy and the media.
    Quite a few blogging friends have stopped blogging or gone private. I guess that's just the way it works.
  15. I wonder why HIPPA laws don't apply to the media. Glad you found that cartoon of that woman's head! I no longer feel all alone in the world.
  16. I'm still here too Jeanie...I have also found some blogging friends have disappeared or gone private...what's up with that???
    I was wondering how YOU ARE...and Dodger boy...and Doc? I have been keeping myself pretty busy with Dad and my big purge...so I apologise for not stopping over lately.
    Hope you have a good week...talk with you soon!
    PS...Did I tell you Izzy climbed up on my husband's lap? I cried I was so happy!! ( I may have told you...if I repeat myself, it shows you how muddled my brain is lately...)
