Freewheeling Friday

I admire bloggers who are creative and clever enough to post everyday or those who are disciplined enough to post on a schedule. I am neither creative, clever nor disciplined, so my posts are very random. There are weeks, like this one has been, when I think of something I want to write about, but I just don't get it done.
Today I'm giving myself a Freewheeling Friday to empty my head of a few random thoughts.

It was hard to ignore all the controversy about TSA searches at airports this week. I'm all for keeping the flying public safe and I see merit on both sides of the argument. Right or wrong, pictures like this and the  many others that have been in the papers this week make me think that it can't be much fun for anyone.

It was also hard to ignore all the news reports about this man, Steven Cowan, who shot his TV because he was so angry about Bristol Palin advancing on Dancing With The Stars. My first thought is that someone who is not smart enough to find the off button on his remote should never be allowed to have a gun.

This is the last picture I have of my father, taken on a Thanksgiving just a few years before he died on the night before Thanksgiving in 1965. I didn't grow up in a very child-oriented home but holidays were celebrated big with lots of extended family, so this picture holds good memories for me.

This will be the first Thanksgiving for my newest grandson, Beck, who is now 2 months old. He is a very happy, smiley little guy and he is making his mom happy by sleeping through the night most of the time.

Today I am waiting to hear the results of X-rays of my oldest grandson's foot. He was just messing around with his brother last night and and came up lame. He hasn't been able to put any weight on it since.

I'm also trying to figure out how to pull together enough chairs, plates, forks and food for the twenty-something people who will be here for Thanksgiving.  Wish me luck, because I am feeling a little short on skill.

  1. Heeeehhehe! For a emptyin' out the brain in a random post this was great sister!

Oh that little Beck is a livin' bundle of joy! That smile says it all.

I'll keep your grandson in my prayers. Our little Sarah Grace broke her arm in two places a couple weeks ago. Something about her bein' a spy detector and her sis was out to destroy the spy detector...and she did!

Ya'll have a beautifully blessed weekend sweetie!!!

  2. I hope the little guy's foot is okay. Hopefully it was just a spraign. Have a great Thanksgiving and I hope you come up with enough chairs for everyone.

  3. Hi Jeanie, Hope you're staying warm. The whole situation with TSA is a bit disconcerting-I want our airports safe and flights safe so I'm for the x-ray machine but the pat-downs seem a bit excessive. Plus when they start hassling older folks and of course babies it makes me sad.
Hope you have a wonderful weekend and Happy Thanksgiving.

  4. I hope I don't need to fly anywhere for the next year or two. I suspect the system will change again because people are going to be freaking out and lines are going to be loooong, and some old guy like the one who shot his television will shoot up an airport. Not that I wish for this! Also, good luck on entertaining all those folks for Thanksgiving!

  5. I sure hope those safety "rules" change, because that would NOT be fun to travel now!!
Beck is the cutest boy I´ve ever seen! REally! I love his smile!!
I know you will make the best Thanksgiving and I bet everyone is so happy to come to your house. I think your Thanksgiving tradition is just the greatest holiday. We celebrate it so differently, that it is a joy to read about it in the various blogs.

  6. Paper plates and plastic forks; of course that's not environmentally friendly, but might save you some stress over that. I do think it sounds fun you are having a bunch of people over for Thanksgiving!! I'm sure the menu/food will come together. The important thing is people who love each other will be together being thankful for so many things on a day of thanks! Beck is adorable!! So glad he is already sleeping through most nights!!

I'm also so thankful I absolutely hate to fly so I won't be on a plane any time soon. I think it is good like you said to keep our skies safe, I just think this is a bit tooooo far.

  7. Wow! I feel "at home" and cozy when I read your posts. How wonderful that you have such a great family that loves to come over to your house. Beck is so cute, and looks older than two months. Happy Thanksgiving. My 16-year-old is coming back from NMMI (New Mexico Military Institute) for the first time since August. We pick him up at the airport in his uniform. He loves his new school.

  8. I'm so glad you had stopped by because I didn't have you bookmarked on my home computer and couldn't remember your blog name to google!

I love that photo of your dad. I'm glad the holidays bring you happy thoughts. I hope this year is a good one for you too (and no really awful foot problems...)

I wasn't thrilled about Bristol going ahead either, but shooting the TV? "Off" or changing the channels seems like so much better a solution! Boy, people are getting WAY too involved in their TV!

Scanners -- You know, I want to be safe, but good grief, if I want an internal exam, I'll go to my doc and get a clean bill of health with it. The scans don't bother me as much -- except for the radiation. But I just can't seem to think of those as porn. Still, coming up on two flights in a few weeks, I can't say I'm looking forward to either!

    Hope your holiday is lovely!

  9. Hi Jeanie, Little Beck is growing so fast! And he's such a handsome guy. It will be fun to have his happiness around your dinner table.

As for the dinnerware and silverware-- They make some really heavy duty plastic plates that look pretty good, (I think Vanity is the brand) maybe that will help.

Have a wonderful holiday and enjoy!

  10. 20 people - you are a saint! Who needs skill when you have lots of love? Hope you enjoy the holiday!

  11. Gosh Jeanie, this was a very interesting post. You could have taken each thought and written a separate post about it.

I haven't had a full body scan yet. I won't have a clear opinion until I actually experience it. Your Beck is adorable and I hope the X-rays turn out OK.

    Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

  12. I'm here to tell you that you are definitely creative and cleaver. I can not vouch for the disciplined.

  13. Hey Jeanie, thank you for peeking in and leaving your nice comment. I have not been doing a good job at blogging lately either. I am trying to cut back but not quit.

It's good that you have that nice picture of your dad. My last one is posted on my blog too (back in 2007). He was 97 when he died in 2007.

Best wishes on caring for the big group for Thanksgiving. We only have Mrs. Jim and granddaughter, Jenna, and me so we plan to eat at Luby's.

    Happy Thanksgiving! :)

  14. Jeanie, Your thoughts are my thoghts especially in regardfs mto what and when to blog. Rest assured that I mlove evwerything yiou write and right now I better stop. Since I cut m y thumb and with all the wrappin g around it, I feel like I do at the denstist when thety put a lot mof gauze in yourm moun th.
I am all "gauzed" up right now mand all thumbs...
    Hiope you can read this.

  15. I'm late to the party here. We left for Pittsburgh the day you posted this, and we just returned.

I'm the same. Neither clever nor disciplined. I just post whenever about whatever.

Fortunately, my dad is still around. But some day, I'm going to miss his advice.

Beck is getting to be a big guy.
