Whew!

Whew! I made it through the week staying with two of my grandkids, EJ, 5, and Beck, 2 1/2. I say "whew" because my experience as a grandmom has been more of the one day or overnight kind of babysitting. A whole week was a new, fun and tiring experience for me. Even though I am not the kind of super-grandmom who arrives with a bag full of crafts and science experiments we had plenty of fun, in spite of a few missing mommy and daddy tears. (I got over them pretty quick).

We all got good and wet at the pop up fountains.

Some more water fun at my friend Patty's house with her granddaughter, Isabella.

My two oldest grandsons, Jared and Justin came to help me out one afternoon. Justin is a little big for the jeep, but he was game to be a good big cousin.

The good thing about EJ and Beck is that they can entertain each other for hours with pretend games in the back yard....even early in the morning still in their pajamas.

My favorite lines from the week:

EJ, playing a pretend game, showing me one of her dolls- This is my daughter. She's allergic to music. It's awkward, but we deal with it.

Beck, piling up his dishes, unasked, to carry them into the house after dinner on the patio-Thank you for my dinner Grandmommy.

I have to admit that I said a little whew! when we get to this time every night.

It was a great experience to live in the world of these two little people for a week, a world of popsicles and pretend, bikes and belly laughs, tickles and tears, and yes, I admit, some Mickey and Minnie on the TV.

And the final WHEW! at 2:30 a.m. Sunday when I heard the garage door go up and knew that mommy and daddy were home.

  1. Hello, dear Jeanie! I'm sure you know me by now and I feel like I know you. We have "met" many times on the blog of our mutual friend. You even acknowledged me by name on that blog last August and it meant a lot to me. I didn't want to risk losing track of a potential friend. For that reason I signed on the dotted line and have begun following your blog. Please be patient with me as I become acquainted with the cast of characters in your life.

One thing I can tell you right off the bat is that I am very impressed by the words and actions of EJ and Beck. EJ's comment had a degree of sophistication you'd expect from someone three times her age. Beck, in the midst of the terrible twos, surprised me with his helpfulness and politeness.

I look forward to becoming good friends with you, Jeanie. It's about time, don't you think? :)

  3. They are just precious! EJ has quite the vocabulary. And, she is good with coping with a children with allergies. So cute.

I can only imagine how tired you must have been. My hat goes off to you. I'm not so sure I could have accomplished this task. I've had my grandkids for four or five days at a time, but I've never had them for a week when they were this small.

  5. Oh Jeanie, I thought about you often and hoped you were all having fun together.

The kids, as always are gorgeous and I crack up at "She's allergic to music. It's awkward, but we deal with it." You just never know what will come out of their mouth :-)

Relax and enjoy your well deserved rest!

  7. I love your photos! Your post amused me because I spent 2-1/2 years babysitting my grandson at home while his parents were at work. That was quite a commitment.

  9. Whew is right! Kudos to you for being such a great grandma...and mother! I'm sure that "mom & dad" really appreciated you being there, knowing everything was great and they could enjoy their time away! Now, it's time for you to relax, refresh, and sleep! As always, I love your pictures of the kids, and their words are always priceless!

  10. How sad to be allergic to music! I'm so glad she is finding a solution (It's awkward but we deal with it -- how old is she REALLY!?)

What a great post -- they are adorable and yes, I can tell that they must have worn you out. But you got great gran-points with the family, that's for sure! And well-deserved, I might add!

  11. Looks like the Grands slept peacefully with Grandmommy in charge! (You probably felt like going to bed at 8, too!) Our company just left, and we get Sam tomorrow. I'm hoping for a good night's sleep tonight to fortify myself!

  12. Great Job Super Grammy!!! The only reason I would have tricks in a basket...is to keep my sanity if they are busy. 2 more nights of the two littles. We have created such a mess I had to just suck it up and say....I will deal with it LATER.

  13. Ha-I love that line, 'It's a little awkward...' Someone heard something somewhere : ) I always so appreciated my parents or inlaws staying a few days with my girls when I was a young mom. I'm sure yours did too!

  16. My mother never held my kids for longer than a day, so I know this will be so much appreciated from your daughter. I'm sure the kids will love you even more for the time you spent with them!
