14 Things

I learned a long time ago that when Doc and I are going someplace together and he says he is ready to go that he isn't really ready to go. When Doc says he is ready to go he still has 14 things to do before he is really ready to go. He has to get some coffee, go to the bathroom, find his keys, check the phone for messages, comb his hair, change his shirt, write a novel, save the world.......I don't really know what all he does, but he always has to do 14 things before we can leave, after he says he is ready.

Our dog, Dodger, goes a lot of places with Doc and he is always eager to go. Until a while ago, when Doc would say "okay Dodger, let's go" Dodger would get all excited and stick by Doc, tail wagging, expecting to go out the door at any second. At about thing 8, his tail would stop wagging and he would give the doggy equivalent of a sigh and go find something else to do.....that is until he finally "got it". Now, the first time Doc says "okay Dodger, let's go", Dodger immediately goes to his bed which sits by the door to the garage and waits with one eye open for what he now knows will be an eventual exit.

Proving he his not such an old dog, Dodger has learned the trick of Doc's 14 Things.

  1. Dodger is one smart dog! Both you and he know Doc's routine. Funny, Jeanie!

  2. Who figured out his routine first...you or Dodger?

Very funny post, we don't really train dogs, we just learn to understand their ways and vice versa.

  4. Hahaha, so cute. Both of them. :)
Dogs really are "mans" best friend.
That's another thing we have in common. I'm always waiting on my hubby to be ready too.

  7. I love this! Dodger is one smart dog. I am like your husband. I always have 14 things to do also. When we are taking our dog for a walk, my husband call for him so we can go. Then, they wait on the front porch for me.

  8. definitely can teach "an old dog" some new tricks with his patience waiting for Doc. How cute though! Hubby is the same about when something will be ready when he BBQ's. he says 10-15 minutes which in reality will turn out to be 25-30 minutes; I've learned over the years to delay other things cooking to match his time :)

  9. LOL! And Ouch! Around here, that is me! I never seem to be all done with this and that, when it's time to go.

    Ask my husband.

  11. Lol. That reminds me of my SIL. She tells me she will pick me up at 8:30 am, but shows up at 9:30 am. She never fails to be an hour or so late. When I host a potluck, I always tell her to bring the dessert, because one Thanksgiving, she was late with the turkey gravy!

  13. Our pets show us about our habits as well as give us pure pleasure. Life would be easier if we humans could learn to adjust so easily.

  14. Sounds like my husband! It took me awhile to learn not to go towards the car until he does. His family is the same way. A few years ago we took a trip with his parents. I told him I would take my book and met them in the lobby. I read quite a few books on that trip!

  17. THAT is a total hoot! You have one smart dog who can read between the lines! Well, what's that they say about insanity being doing the same bad thing over and over with repeated results? One this is sure. Dodger isn't insane!

  19. Doc sounds exactly like my husband and his entire family! "Going" means take a sit and have a cold drink cuz it's going to be a while to get the "14 things" done... THEN it takes even longer to say good-bye to everyone.

    Happy weekend. xo jj
