Sisters

Sisters is probably the most competitive relationship within the family, but once the sisters are grown, it becomes the strongest relationship.  ~Margaret Mead

My two daughters, Jill and Joanna at 4 and 9.

Two of my granddaughters, Joanna's daughters, Hope, 9, and EJ, 4.

My daughters Jill and Joanna are 5 years and 8 months apart in age. Joanna's two daughters, Hope and EJ are also 5 years and 8 months apart in age. Jill and Joanna, of course, had plenty of conflicts growing up as Hope and EJ do now. Hope and EJ will be very fortunate if they can grow up to be the very best of friends like their mom and aunt grew up to be.

Having a sister is like having a best friend you can't get rid of. You know whatever you do, they'll still be there. ~Amy Li

  2. I loved having an older sister to teach me how to do things and a younger sister to babysit. They now live together and we talk all the time.

  5. Having one brother and no sisters left me wishing for a sister. I have a foster sister who has loved me like a sister over 50 years so I guess that makes her my sister. And I have a sister-in-law who wants to stay my sister even after the divorce from her brother is final. What great photos of the daughters and granddaughters too. Interesting pattern in both generations of 5 years and 8 months.

  6. Sweet post Jeanie. Your girls were cute as kids...and still so lovely! And your granddaughters are precious too.

My sis was 8 years older. She went to heaven 3 years ago. I sure miss her.

  7. I think it's wonderful that they are the same ages apart. One of my sisters was 19 years old when I was born. She was already married and had a baby. We were never close until we got older. We lost her last summer. My other sister was 12 when I was born and we were always very close. My mother said that she just "mothered" me since the moment I was born. Sisters are wonderful.

  8. Good post, Mom! I have to remind myself on a daily basis that there is hope for Hope and EJ. Some days it feels like the fighting may never end! Other days, I know they feel lucky to have each other.

  9. I'm so grateful I have my sisters. I just spoke with my younger sister on the phone. I was 12 when she was born, so we didn't really grow up together. We getter closer and closer the older we get.

  10. What a sweet post...and great pictures.
My sister is 5 years older than me (o:
We have always been very close... we spend less time together now because her married daughters with kids want all her attention when she has a day off (o:

I have always felt sorry for My daughter... not having a sister... but she doesn't know the feeling she is missing... so why try to tell her.

The last snow has melted for the most part...well off of the roads anyway.

  11. I had three sisters. Two are left. I've always tried to be closer to mine but it's never worked for me.

I always envy those that are, though!

  15. As an only child, I always wanted a sister. I like to think of my closest friends as the sisters I chose for myself -- but I don't think it can ever be the same. Nice piece!

  16. I'm lucky to have three sisters. We didn't get a long as kids but now that I live 2500 miles away, we're all best friends-- And I'll love them forever.

Your daughters are beautiful and so are the grandkids :-)

  17. My sister was a best friend for fifty-four years. We were 8.5 years apart and she taught me to draw, speak French and write poetry. How to spot magic in every day objects and when is the best time to listen to ghosts.

Even at the end, she taught me how to move to the next life with absolute grace. I will miss her for all my days, and be grateful that I had her all that time.

    BEAUTIFUL post, Jeanie.
