Someone Is Not Very Merry This Christmas

Image from Google Images

My daughter, Joanna, and her family moved to a new house last summer. Someone from out of town inadvertently sent some Christmas gifts for the kids to the old address. Joanna e-mailed the property manager of their old house and asked her to give the current resident her phone number and to ask if she would please call if packages came for them and she would come pick them up. This is the e-mailed response of the current resident at their old address.

I have an issue with this. They can process a change of address with the U.S. Postal service. I have better things to do than coordinate their mail. All first class mail has been returned to sender. This is how we managed our former address.

Joanna was a little, um, surprised by this response but she responded gracefully to the woman who refused to make a phone call.

I understand your frustration. We registered our change of address with the USPS effective when we moved, and while most things have been forwarded, some things (especially packages) slip through the cracks and end up being delivered to the old address. I was hoping that any packages that may have been sent to the wrong address would be able to get to my kids by Christmas. I respect your decision and we will hope that the postal service is able to get everything forwarded.

I hope you and your family have a blessed holiday season!

I also hope the woman can find a little Merry in her Christmas. Somehow her response made me want to to out and do something nice for someone.

  1. People can be so rude and heartless. Just makes you wonder what is wrong in her life...

Your daughter took the high road in dealing with her. I hope the packages arrive by Christmas. Have a Merry Christmas!!!

  2. Can you believe the lack of good will that some people have??? You daughter certainly showed her character. She is a civil, kind, and considerate person.

I do hope the packages are delivered on time to the right address.

  3. Joanna is a very gracious, forgiving, wonderful young lady. She is a credit to you. How wonderful of her to respond kindly instead of in anger. It's nice to know she's not letting one nasty person ruin her holiday.

  4. Ouch! Kill them with kindness, as my hubby likes to say. I'm sure the lady is biting her tongue after that reaction. You should be proud :)

  5. I like what Marie wrote. Kill them with kindness is the way. Some people just do not handle the holidays well, it seems.

  6. It is too bad the woman reacted that way, especially at Christmas. Your daughter did the right thing.

  7. I admire your daughter for taking the high road, and doing it so graciously that the woman can't help but notice. Maybe she'll be nicer to the next person who comes along.

    Bummer!!!
    Hope it works out.

Ty will be here Thursday and we will celebrate (our first anyway) Christmas with him that night. He goes back Christmas Eve and we will celebrate again on Christmas with everyone else. Just like lots of people... a little scattered. Hope the weather is good by then.

  11. You raised one gracious, appropriate and divine daughter. I hope the packages turn up somewhere and soon. And that maybe the Christmas gift to the manager is a change of heart and some compassion in 2012.

  12. I find that a very sad response from someone who must be a very sad, disillusioned person. I can't help but contrast this person with all the wonderful people doing random acts of kindness, especially during this holiday season. Sure hope the gifts find their way to the grands.

  13. Wow. I can't believe someone would act that way. I have a feeling she's unmerry in general, not just at Christmas. Your daughter is a good person to have responded as she did.

Merry Christmas to you and your family! I hope it's filled with joy, happiness and warm hearts!

  14. Sheesh, someone needs to get into the Christmas spirit and lighten up. What a shame that they didn't have time for such a small gesture that would mean so much.

I give your daughter a lot of credit. She took the high road for the sake of her kids. I hope they get their gifts.

    Merry Christmas Jeanie. xoxoxo jj
