Friday Fragments/Freewheeling Friday

It was back to work for me after the Christmas weekend and I am very much looking forward to another three day weekend. I have managed to get all of my Christmas decorations put away except for the few stragglers that always seem to show up. It is always fun to decorate the house for Christmas, but there is also a good feeling when I get it put away for another year.

My 15 month old grandson, Beck, who was so smiley on Christmas was not so happy a couple of days later. He was with his family visiting Brandon's mom in Austin and ended up in the emergency room on Wednesday night with breathing problems. He got very good treatment and is feeling much better now. He did well with the breathing treatments they gave him but he really didn't like the hospital bracelet on his arm.....he kept pulling on it, saying "off." I am so thankful that he is better and they will be coming home from Texas today.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The foot of snow we got a few days before Christmas is melting pretty fast now, but it was pretty treacherous to take Dodger out walking for a few days. Sidewalks were mostly shoveled, but there were some here and there that weren't.
The streets were plowed but still very icy in places.
Here is what saved me-Yaktrax. The are traction cleats that fit over the bottom of your shows or boots. I had gotten them last year for Christmas and used them a few times, but we didn't have much snow last year. They have been a life saver this year. I would highly recommend Yaktrax if you live somewhere that gets a lot of snow and ice.
Now it is on to the new year with a family get-together for football and black-eyed peas on Sunday.
Go Broncos
I wish everyone a happy, healthy, good, rewarding, prosperous and adventurous New Year.
  1. I'm so sorry your grandson was ill, but glad he is better. Sweet little boy.
    I saw some of those cleat thingys in the Avon catalog. I thought they were a great idea. Our snow has all melted now, but we will probably get more. I love watching sports games with my family. It is usually the hockey playoffs.
  2. There's nothing worse than having a sick one when you're away from home. Hope he's okay.
    Dodger is beautiful! And the snow: LOVE it!
  3. I'm so sorry to hear about the breathing problems for your grandson, but happy to read he is better now.
    We take our walks at the River Walk here in town in the winter because we don't have to deal with ice there. My husband has some of the Yaktrax, but he has never used them. I keep trying to get him to put them on since he has artificial knees and an artificial hip. A fall would not be good for him. Maybe I'll just start wearing them.
  7. Poor baby.
    Glad he is feeling better. Asthma?
    My Mom is 82 and when it snows she absolutely refuses to leave her mail in the mailbox overnight. Once she went to get it and could not get back up to the porch and a passing car stopped and the people helped her get back into her house. I worry about her, so bought her some trax for her shoes and she loves them. If we can't keep her out of the store we can at least try to make it safer for her.
  8. I am glad that your grandson is feeling better- I remember taking my grandson in a few times with my daughter - there is nothing scarier then breathing!
    Happy New Year.
  11. Thank goodness your grandson is feeling better. What a scare! This is one of the reasons I wish Hawaii would not have so many fireworks during the new year. It really hurts people with respiratory problems.
    I hope the temperature warms up for you. Have a terrific 2012!!!
  12. UGH...the snow Jeanie? Tell it to go away (said from someone who is experiencing the 60's this weekend in NC) but hey I guess the snow has to be somewhere.
    I'm glad you enjoyed your holidays but poor Beck; not a fun place to be anytime...hopehe is feeling much better!
    Many blessings to you this year!
  13. I have a version of yak-trax that I like very much but yours look even better. I don't know how I'd get the garbage out without them when we get our snow!
    Glad Brandon is OK. My decorations are still up, will be for a bit, but I can see how nice it will be to take them down!
  14. We don't get snow at all where live, which is kinda sad as I would love to have a White Christmas!
  15. I am so glad the baby is better. How scary that must have been.
    We did not do anything today...just lazed around. Yes... I have Christmas stuff to put away... I just can't face it!!! Maybe tomorrow (o:
    I went for a walk...New year changes to make... walking being one of them. I stepped on a round rock in the road... and I was on the ground before I knew what hit me. Sooo, you have to watch for rocks not just ice!!! I may have a few aches and pains in the morning, but right now it is just a skinned knee. Glad you had a great day with family...even if the Broncos did loose.
  16. I remember spending so many Christmas holidays at the urgent care. The colds & infections would get to an all time high either the day before or the day after! I'm glad to hear your grandson is better.
    I'm terrified of ice, as I broke my ankle at the first dusting in St. Louis 15 years ago. Going to get me some yak-trax!
    Wishing you and your family a wonderful 2012!
  17. Good to be reading your blog again. When I shut down TechnoBabe I started a new blog. Sorry about your grandson. I am interested in the cleats as we get ice here. Here's hoping you and your family have a wonderful year in 2012.
  20. Awwww, I'm so glad the little one is better!
    Girl, ya can keep that snow! I make no bones about my lack of love and joy for the stuff.
    God bless you sweetie and have a marvelous 2012!!!
  21. So glad your grandson is better. Scary stuff for all, I'm sure.
    We still have lots of ice on the street right in front of our house. OUR house only, for some reason. Free and clear in front of neighbors on both sides. (Likely because we have lots of trees blocking the sun and they don't.)
    My daughter who lives in Denver recently mentioned wanting YakTrax to make her daily runs safer. Look like a clever little gadget.
    Happy 2012 to you!
