Happy 100 year anniversary to Chevrolet

When I heard earlier this week that it was the 100 year anniversary for Chevrolet I didn't think much about it. Later I started thinking about the Chevys that had come and gone in my life over the years. It has been many years since I have had a Chevrolet but the first car I owned that was all my own was a 1966 Chevy Malibu. It looked about like this and I drove it through college and beyond.

I don't remember my family having a Chevrolet when I was growing up, but my best friend in high school had a Chevrolet Corvair. The Corvair was possibly one of the most dangerous cars ever made, but my friend and I fortunately drove it through many safe and memorable high school miles.

Also in high school I briefly dated a boy who had a 1956 Corvette. I don't remember much about him, but I sure do remember his car.

In later years after I had kids I drove several Chevy station wagons. They weren't too glamorous, but they bring back good memories of my young family. I had a special talent for getting from the front seat to the very back very quickly when my kids behavior required my immediate attention.

And who can forget, at least those of us of a certain age, Dinah Shore singing See The USA in your Chevrolet, with a big kiss thrown at the end of the song.

So for my Chevrolet memories I say happy 100 year anniversary to Chevrolet.

  1. Wow I didn't realize it was Chevrolet's 100th anniversary!! We have had three Chevys as a married couple, 2 Astro vans (one that got totaled, not my fault, but that was a great van) and currently hubby drives an HHR which is a very comfortable car! I like their Cruze; I don't think my budget does though!

I like your line, you don't remember the boy, but you remember the car!!

  3. We always drive Chevy(GMC). I'd like to have one of those Vette's now. It would be worth a small fortune:) I smiled at the thought of you flying over the seats in that wagon:)

  4. We were a Ford family. I remember in HS the guys either drove Chevys or Fords and there were debates about which were better. I do remember Dinah Shore. My brother-in-law worked at CBS on her talk show and says she was the nicest star he ever worked for.

  5. My first car was an old Dodge Dart that I bought for $450 when I was 33 yrs old. I sold it for $400 a year later when I got married. I later heard that the car broke down for good 6 months after the sale. I felt so bad for the buyer.

Presently, I own a 2002 Hyundai Accent, which still runs beautifully.

  8. My/our first car was a Chevy Malibu too. It was beige and we bought it for $300. Even though it was already old when we bought it, it served us well and we have fond memories of that car.
    Happy 100th to Chevrolet!

  9. Good post! I was just telling my husband that it was Chevy's 100 birthday. We always liked Chevy's better than Fords.

Cute pictures and cute memories Jeanie! Especially the corvette...but not the boy! ha!

I'm off to an Amy Grant concert tonight! (:>) Michael W. Smith is with her. Ta-Ta!

    Love, Linda

  10. I didn't know it was 100 years old - but I am not totally surprised either.

Reminds me of my mom - she had a Chevrolet and she loved that car so much!

    Happy birthday Chevrolet!

  12. When I was 20, my boyfriend got me a 1974 Chevy Impala that could eat up almost anything on the road. I used to blast Peter Frampton on my 8 track and drive like the all powerful OZ.....sweet memories...and not a single traffic ticket, by the way. :)

  13. We've only owned one chev. I think it was a 1973 Station Wagon. We sure did make some wonderful memories on that car! That was before seat belts and I loved the fact that the kids could sleep in the back when we took trips!

  14. I well remember the Dinah Shore show and that jingle she sang about the Chevrolet. I would remember that Corvette also! As a teen, it was my favorite car. My mom had a Chevy station wagon too. I drove it around when I was a teenager. I don't think I looked too cool in it.

  16. I remember many of those cars. My dad was a car salesman and sold Chevy cars for YEARS!!!

But I had no idea they're 100 years old. Hmm, does that make me younger or older than I thought I was :-)
