Flood Aftermath and a Flood of Birthdays

I am very thankful that our home got through the recent flood event in our area of Colorado with nothing more than a little water in our basement. Many in neighboring towns were not so lucky and are now dealing with the loss of their home or business and in some cases the loss of life. There have been eight people reported who lost their life in the storms and there are still six people missing. The news has moved on to other things while the recovery and clean up has just begun in many Colorado towns. My heart goes out to those who are struggling to recover.

As the say on the news...and now on a very different note, my family has had a flood of birthdays just before and during the our week of rain.

My grandson Wil turned 8

My grandson Beck turned 3

He has a couple of more weeks in his cast...I think he will miss it just a little once he gets it off.

I have an ice cream cake in my freezer waiting until we can celebrate birthdays for my son and oldest daughter. My son was stranded in his neighborhood by the floods on the day we had planned to celebrate.  I have been wondering if they would notice a couple of pieces missing if I lose control of myself before we can finally get together.

  1. Control yourself, Jeanie! Glad your home was mostly unscathed. Yes, we all move on to other things, but many are still trying to recover from the flooding devastation. Happy b-days to your grands and children who celebrate this month!

  2. Hello again, dear Jeanie! Day by day I followed the events as they unfolded in Colorado. Some stories were heartbreaking while others were heartwarming. I am very thankful that your home was spared the worst of the flooding.

Happy birthday to Wil and Beck and to your son and daughter! I'm sure they won't fault you if you nibble at the ice cream cake before they arrive. Your happy family reunion will be the sweetest thing of all. Blessings to you and yours, dear friend!

  4. I can't believe Beck is 3 years old already! It just seems like you were announcing his being born! Such a cute little boy; I bet that cast is not keeping him "down". Happy birthday to all your family's birthdays Jeanie.

Just come clean if you sneak in and take a piece or two of the ice cream cake. I had to do that the other day when I helped myself to more than I should have of some ice cream; I thought I'd just go and buy another carton and try to hide the evidence, but came clean, had a few good laughs as a result; I'm sure the same would happen in your family should that cake tempt you :)

glad to hear you didn't suffer too much damage; I can imagine the clean up from the flooding is tedious work.

  5. Oh my gosh, Jeanie. You've been in my thoughts and I'm thankful you and yours are safe. And I continue to say prayers for the families devastated by the floods. I can't remember ever seeing anything like it before. The photos on the news were shocking.

Happy birthday to your handsome gang.

    Stay safe.

  8. That much damage takes a toll even when your own home is safe and sound. I wish you and your family all the best, including some very happy birthdays.

  9. My heart goes out to everyone who has been affected by the storms. I hope that recovery comes quick for all of them.

Happy Birthday to your family members. Go ahead and steal a sliver; steal one for me, too, since I no longer eat ice cream cake (my daughters worked at Dairy Queen...)!

    Wishing you the best, Jeannie!

Things are back to business over here. The boss is back tomorrow, but that's good, I'm ready for more work.
Hope you enjoy celebrating those birthdays yet!

  14. Gee whiz! That is indeed a flood of birthdays. Adorable kiddos. What a joy it must be for you to participate in their special days.

Glad to hear you fared well with the real flooding. My area didn't see too much (just a bit on the opposite side of town). But, like you, my heart truly goes out to those in the devastated areas. Absolutely incredible and heartbreaking.

  15. Jeannie, so glad you fared well in the flooding. I feel sad for those struggling with loss - very hard for them to move forward...You are a stronger woman than me if you've STILL managed to stay out of that ice cream cake!! LOL. Your photos are great - those grands are wearing happy faces! Happy Birthday to all!
