Friday Fragments

To participate in  Friday Fragments click here

It has been a pretty convoluted week for me. Thanks to Mrs. 4444 for the Friday Fragment opportunity to do a little catch-up here. After several days of packing in preparation for having the furniture moved out of four rooms for re-carpeting we left on Saturday for Las Vegas while the furniture moving and carpeting jobs were completed. We came home late Tuesday and have spent the last two days getting everything moved back in. The biggest job for me was getting the whole computer/internet/TV/phone stuff put back together. I now consider myself a tech genius because they all actually work. (OK, the Comcast guy had to come to get the phones working, but it turned out to be a problem with their equipment, so I still claim a minor tech genius title).

Vegas was, well, Vegas. We had a good time with friends and met some interesting people.

This Grinch was actually pretty friendly

The Joker was a little bit scary

These guys definitely know how to have a good time

I even got a little lucky....this was a $1000 jackpot

A couple of weeks ago my 10 year old granddaughter, Hope, went through a rite of passage.....
Before

She got braces
After

Does it seem like kids are getting braces younger and younger these days?

Our community is still grieving the abduction and murder of 10 year old Jessica Ridgeway. Her killer has not been caught so there is still the fear about knowing there is someone out there who is capable of such a horrible act. Along with the grief there has been an amazing amount of support for her family for their loss and activities in memory of Jessica.

Please keep her family and friends in your thoughts and prayers.

  1. Great pictures, Jeanie! Yes, braces are being put on younger kids nowadays. It worries me as there is still time for their teeth to move again once they come off.

Glad you had fun in Vegas! Congrats on the jackpot!

Yes, Jessica's family and the families who remain unsure are in my prayers.

  2. Congrats on your winnings Jeanie!! Sounds like you had a nice time in Las Vegas! Glad to hear that the carpeting is completed and that you could put together the tech stuff; that in itself is amazing to me! I'm so tech challenged!

Hope looks pretty, braces or no braces, but you are right it does seem like it is younger and younger. It is amazing these days what they can do with x-rays to see if kids will have enough room in their mouth for their teeth, etc.

It is good to hear the support for Jessica's family; will pray that the killer is apprehended.

  3. This is so sad about Jessica. It's every family's worst nightmare.

Thank you for sharing your Vegas fun. One of these days we'll have to make it out there.

  4. How has the mind of the person who killed Jessica remained hidden? Surely someone knew this deranged killer was out there? Pray the perpetrator is found soon.

  5. I waited until my boys were in 10th grade before they got braces. They were embarrassed because their friends had them on and off much earlier. I may be totally off base but my thought is that children are still growing and it makes more sense to wait.

    So sad about Jessica.

  6. In my humble opinion anyone who can hook all that stuff up is for sure a technical genius!

Congratulations on your big win!!! The one and only time I have ever been to Las Vegas, I doubled my money and stopped.....my husband won the jackpot and stopped. We had fun AND left with money!

Is it just me, or did the braces instantly make your granddaughter look older!? And yes, it does seem they are getting them younger these days!

I am so sad and sorry for Jessica and her family. I can't imagine their horror and suffering and the fear now in the community. I don't understand how anyone could commit such a monstrous act. I hope the person is caught and soon!

  7. Sometimes, I wish I didn't have carpeting, because it is such a hassle to replace. On the other hand, it's safer for people or children who are prone to falling.

Congrats on being a tech wizard and a winner in Vegas.

Braces? I got them when I was 12 after all of my adult teeth had set in.

And it is sad about Jessica. Hope her killer is found and brought to justice.

  8. I don't think there is a crime worse than abducting, abusing, and then killing a child. It is just creepy horrible.

  9. I seem to be following Keetha all over Friday Fragments today. I agree with her, though, about the awfulness of abducting and hurting a child. I can't imagine what her poor parents are going through.

I'll add my prayers that the perpetrator is caught soon.

  10. Sounds like a great trip you had and congrats on the great win! What will you do with it? Plan your next trip? :)
I hope the carpet is all you hoped for.

So sorry about that little girl being murdered. I can't imagine what you must be feeling, still having the killer out there. Stay safe!

Hope you are doing well Jeanie!

  11. you have been busy...Vegas is fun...but it sure will wear you out...it does seem like they are getting younger and younger with the braces...then sometimes they have to get them again as adults...

  12. Didn't they come out today and see that there was another lady the same man tried to get?

  13. Great photos and congratulations on your win! I do hate that rewiring of everything after a major overhaul. That's one thing (of many) that is keeping me from repainting my studio!

  14. First, RIP, Jessica. What a terrible loss....

And, turning the corner as they say...

Congrats on the $1000 jackpot! Very cool.

As for braces-- Hope's lucky to get her braces at age 10. I waited until I was 40 years old to get mine!

Have a good week. xo jj

    Woo hoo for you!

I saw a little girl in my Grandlittles first grade class with braces. I about fell over...I don't think they've even lost all their teeth yet at that age!
