Would You Look At That or Little Things Mean a Lot

A work colleague that I have talked to a lot on the phone but never met in person came into my office today with a gift for me. The gift was a very cool little electric candle operated by a tiny remote control that turns it on and off, changes the color, sets the light to flickering or steady and sets it to turn off after after a set amount of time. It is even scented, and it was a very apt gift since we have a strict prohibition against burning candles in our offices.

A cool gift, but it meant so much more on a day that was stacking up to be hectic, bordering on stressful. It was a gift that allowed me to stop for a moment and appreciate someone's thoughtfulness. It was a gift that made me think about needing to show that thoughtfulness to others more often. It was a gift that made me feel good and made me want to do something to make someone else feel good. The giver said "oh, it's not much," but to me, today, it was a lot.

  3. that is a neat looking candle, Jeanie! I've seen them before and I think they are a great invention for policies where candles can't be burned.

That was a very nice gesture on her part! I bet somewhere down the line you will feel someone needs a little gift, boost, etc and do something similarly as nice for them!

  4. Jeanie, Glad you got that special pick-me-up on a stressful day (o:
It looks like a special, fun, gift.
Some people are so good at that...giving a gift when it is needed.
Hope your week gets better. I do not care for this rain and gloom.

  6. I guess that's what Paying It Forward means. How wonderful to be working with somebody so thoughtful and kind. She obviously saw something beautiful in you and wanted to let you know how much she valued your friendship.

  9. Great post - and so true - sometimes the little things can mean the most - especially when it is a surprise or we need something.

I love those candles - my best friend ever - (who died a year ago) - had given me a set - I have them in my bedroom - needless to say they are important to me.

  10. That was so nice of your co-worker! I´ve never heard of those kind of candles, but they seem very fitting for an office (or for someone who forgets about them....like me). :)
I´m glad you have such a good friend there.
