Freewheeling Friday

Between baseball and, frankly, a little summer laziness I have been away from my blog for nearly two weeks. I thought that after that much time away I would be full of things I wanted to write about, but it seems like whatever little blog mojo I might have is a use it or lose it thing. Oh well, I can't let having little to say get in the way of a Freewheeling Friday catch-up.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I have been going to a lot of baseball games and I have missed a lot of games since the schedules often overlap. What I haven't been doing is taking lots of pictures. I borrowed this one from daughter-in-law's Facebook page. Wil, who will soon be 6, is a first time Little Leaguer and he takes his baseball very seriously.
A couple of things that happened this week showed me that even things that irritate us can give us something to be thankful for.
I missed a baseball game on Wednesday night because I got caught in a traffic back-up caused by a very serious wreck. Even though it was irritating to be stuck in traffic for over an hour and to miss the game, I was very grateful to be the one stuck in traffic and not one of those involved in the wreck.
Thursday morning at about 2 a.m. I was startled awake by the phone ringing. (The only good middle of the night call I have ever gotten was when Joanna called to tell me Brandon had been called up to the major leagues).  This early morning call turned out to be a reverse 911 call about a missing little girl. The phone rang again about an hour later with the information that the little girl had been found. Even though it was irritating to be woken up at that time by a ringing phone, I was thankful that our town had made the effort and that the little girl had been found.
My friend Sonia at Gutsy Writer has asked her readers to write a life list, a list of 10 things you want to do. I haven't come up with a list and I am wondering if it is because I have a waning sense of adventure (which I don't think is the case) or if I am just feeling a sense of contentment with my life right now. Of course, there are always new things I want to do and places I want to go, I just can't seem to come up with a list. Go visit Sonia to see some very interesting lists.
  1. I have been in the same place, Jeannie, sort of lazy and sort of not having much to write about. Good luck to the new Little Leaguer!
    Sonia has a great idea, but I have yet to contribute. Maybe, I'll mosey on over.
  2. Jeannie,
    Welcome back...sometimes we just need a break!
    Ummm, I think you make a good point about being content with life and well, just not 'needing' much else. I always thought it was frustrating when I'd ask my mom what she wanted for Christmas and she would say, 'I don't need a thing!'
    I had a hard time understanding that but I do now and so true....
    glad you are back!
  3. Well your blog mojo is off some where with my diet mojo!
    Your area has a calling system for a lost child - I have never heard of that before. Excellent.
    Your little Wil is a cutie.
    I think your mojo will come back soon.
    Just breathe! lol
  4. phones ringing in the middle of the night are never my cup of tea either, but I am glad that your community has such a thing set in place to help in events like this; I am extra glad the little one was found safe and sound!! cute baseball player you got there!! I'm sure you do enjoy the games you can get to for all your grands and their talents on the field!
    that is good to have a feeling of contentment about one's life; I'll have to go over and check out those lists some time; sounds like an interesting concept to ask of people :)
    enjoy the weekend
  5. Enjoy that sense of contentment. Women spend too much of their lives pursuing goals, I think.
  6. I don´t have a list either and don´t think I want to make one. Lists give me expectations and if they don´t "fulfill" I am disappointed in myself. So I just take it like it comes.
    That phone call in the middle of the night happened for me last week too. It was 3:30 am and it was my daughter with really bad stomach pains. I raced over there and took her to Emergency, but as we arrived the pains started to ease. They gave her a shot for the pain and after it went away and never came back. We still don´t know what caused it. Maybe food poisoning.
  7. I wouldn't mind getting a middle of the night call like that either. If someone in my family ever makes the big leagues, they can call to tell me anytime.
    My oldest grandson is 6 and plays little league too. But with my work schedule and softball league, I only make a few games a season to watch him.
  8. I feel the same way about a list. Unless I win the lotto, I won't be going to Paris or London. I like to take life as it comes too.
  9. Midnight calls are never good. So glad this one turned out all right.
    Seems to me as if you - like many others - are just enjoying the summer! Good for you, I say.
  10. I've never heard of a reverse 911 call. I always cringe if the phone rings in the middle of the night.
    Do you have a major league baseball player in your family? Awesome.
  11. I think summer has enough to do without blogging. I would rather have coffee any day (o:
    Enjoy the baseball...I sure miss it.
    Stuck in traffic would be a pain. I never have that problem....because I never drive out of town (o:
    That emergency call would be scary. We have never had one.
    I agree... it is ok to be content. I think my life would be somewhat unhappy if I ever stressed over the things I would like to do....that just aren't getting done. I use to think I wanted to go to Africa....now I think I should go to the zoo.... but never seem to do it.
  12. I think it is hard to keep up with the blogging in the summer. I am having a hard time with that.
    The 911 call would have been scary, but I have to agree. It is nice to know that these things are taken seriously and that your community was being very proactive.
  13. Hmm, then things I'd like to do-- That's a tough one. I've been thinking about it for a few minutes and know it will take me a long while to get even five. I'd like to think it's because I'm content but I'm not quite sure....
    I'm off to see Sonia's list.
  14. So very true. There is nothing worse for me to be stuck in a car eith people moaning about traffic when you know some more guy/girl is suffering... glad they found the girl too :)
  15. It's nice to catch up! I've been odd with the blog, too. Trying at least to pre-post so there is something new there, but it's been harder to schedule visits. Summer is always so frantic -- but it's also fun, which shouldn't be overlooked!
  16. Frankly, I think my list changes everyday. Right now, I just want to get over my jet lag.
  17. I have an easier time reading blogs than posting. Don't know what would be on my list either.
