Too Soon and Too Hot

In my opinion it is a little too soon and a little too hot for school to be starting. but since no one asked my opinion (or would care about it if they did) my grandkids are starting back to school this week. Actually only Hope and Wil start this week  and the others go back next week. We took this last chance on Tuesday for an impromptu end-of-summer-vacation pizza picnic. (Pizza, because moms who will soon be packing lunches everyday didn't want to start that activity any sooner than they had to.)

EJ has a couple of weeks before she starts her last year of pre-school so she was all smiles.

The big kids brought bikes and scooters.

They climbed a faux mountain at the park,

and worked on their balancing skills.

EJ wasn't too happy that she couldn't do some of the things the big kids could do,

but when she met a new friend everything got better.

Beck has a couple of years before he has to even think about starting school, so he was, as usual, happy to just play.

The truth is that most of the kids are pretty happy to be going back to school. I am the one who will miss being able to have last minute pizza picnics at the park.

  1. I know what you mean, Jeanie. My grandkids give me so much joy. I dread Rylan going to preschool next year, after he turns 3. Who will keep me company then? Lol.

  2. I hope there will be some kind of school holiday when you can spring another impromptu pizza picnic. Sounds like great fun!

  3. It seems kids have a very short summer any more, since school begins so early. Fun day!

  4. You have such beautiful grandchildren, Jeanie. My granddaughter in Illinois doesn't start school until after Labor Day. I sure hope it cools down by then.

  6. Good luck to them! Andy started this week. I am sorry I am so behind in reading and answering - my internet has been giving me fits - I think it is okay now.

  7. Three of us have granddaughters named Hope. I do, you do and Dianne of Forks Off The Moment does. Isn't is nice to have so much hope in the world? :)

  8. Mine are going to "welcome back night" in Evergreen tomorrow and school next week. The Denver ones have a little bit longer until they start back. My one in IN is already going - he goes to a charter year round school. We had the older ones in the mountains last week for an end-of-summer bash. Your Grands are beautiful, Jeanie!

  9. They are gorgeous children, Jeanie. I love the captured expressions. My Grands have been back for almost two weeks now. High triple digits...heat stroke everyday I fear!

  12. My grandkids up north began school last week also. It does seem too early and too hot to me too. I love that you did this impromptu picnic. Impromptu and picnic just seem to go together. Your grandchildren are so cute!

Where is this great little park? The next time I am up that way, we will have to meet for coffee.

  13. I used to LOVE it when the kids went back to school!
Now, not so much. It's tiresome having to get up and make lunches, get them ready etc.
Your grandkids are all adorable looking kids, and that little friend of EJ's wow, what awesome hair!
