He is now the oldest of my 7 grandchildren and we have both changed over the years, but time has been a little kinder to him.

He plays baseball, basketball, is a good student and has lots of friends. He is a pretty serious kid who is way too hard on himself when he can't do something perfectly.
He says he is not looking forward to "catching puberty". (I bet he and his friends have some pretty interesting conversations about that.)
He recently "confessed" when his mom found his name scratched into a window sill. He swore he couldn't remember doing it but it must have been him since it was his name. His 8 year old brother finally 'fessed up as the culprit.
Yes, I couldn't be prouder of this boy who was the first to teach me how much fun it is to be a grandmom.
Happy Birthday Jared!
Happy birthday Jared - you look like a fine young man and your grandmother is sure proud of you!

Catching puberty. What a wonderful way to say it. He sounds extraordinary and well, like a boy! Happy birthday indeed. And Jeanie, the years have done just fine by you from the look of that picture.
ReplyDeleteWhat a good looking guy!
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking puberty will be kind to him as the girls are gonna LOVE him!! Are you ready for this, Jeanie?
Your grandson is a handsome young man. Those first grandchildren are so special! My oldest of seven just turned 15. Where does the time go? Enjoy each moment you have with him before he catches puberty. That will mean grandma won't be quite as important.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday to Jared! I love that phrase "catching puberty". Hadn't heard it quite described like that before! He sounds like a wonderful young man, Jeanie!!
ReplyDeletebetty
All of the above, and how nice that he can still talk to you about 'catching puberty', as I'm sure there will come a day when he'd rather chew glass than talk to you about it!
ReplyDeleteHe is a handsome lad, and I suspect I know just how much you love your first grandson. Happy Birthday to him!
ReplyDeleteAwww - he sounds like a compassionate and honest person. Hope he has a great birthday.
ReplyDeleteLight bulb moment...Does that mean that I 'caught' menopause and I can pop a pill and get over it??? Heeehehhee!
ReplyDeleteOh Honey, that Jared is gonna knock 'em dead! What a handsome young fella he is. You have a good reason to pop those proud buttons grandma!
Happy Birthday Jared...your terrific!

What a handsome boy! You are right to be proud of him. I would be, too. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JARED!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat post!!! Happy BD to that special boy. Maybe someday I will have a baby grandson (o:
ReplyDeleteI sure enjoyed our coffee date. I actually went there again on Sunday with my hubby. Can never get to much Ziggie's coffee.
The first grandchild is so exciting! They do teach you the joy of life all over again. Happy Birthday to Jared!
ReplyDeleteYour grandson sounds like a real winner. What a sweet and handsome grandson. I'd like to belatedly wish him a happy birthday also.
ReplyDeleteI hope Jared enjoyed his birthday. You have every reason to be a proud grandma.
ReplyDeleteOur oldest grandson is Jared too! I hope he had a Happy Birthday! He is a handsome boy!
ReplyDeleteLoved the name carving story. His brother was pretty smart to do that so everyone would think it was Jared and not him!
When my oldest daughter Lisa was five she wrote her name on the wall of our apartment in cursive and then tried to tell me that her little siblings did it. (She was the only one who could write in cursive! Ha!)
Oh the memories!
Kids are great!
