I heard a report saying that American spending related to the Super Bowl will top 10 billion dollars this year. Thats $10000000000, or about $60 per person, up from about $52 per person last year. The spending will be for food and drink for Super Bowl parties, sports related clothing for the game, new TVs for ultimate viewing and other game related paraphernalia. It seems that more people host or go to Super Bowl parties than New Years Eve parties.
I am a Super Bowl spending slacker. I don't think I have yet spent a penny related to viewing the Super Bowl.
I guess I'd better run out and get some chips and dip just so I can feel like I'm doing my part.
I haven't done my part either...we don't watch football....I know that sounds unAmerican....
ReplyDeleteThe Super Bowl is the only game that I really watch. It's just a good reason for a party (which is about to start). Go get you some chips and dips and watch the commercials!
ReplyDeleteI was at the grocery store this afternoon, working my way around young guys (mostly) stocking up on chips, pizza, and the like. We honor the day by eating various frozen appetizers like crab rolls and sometimes a pizza. And we watch the commercials, until we forget to look up and just keep reading or doing paperwork or whatever.
ReplyDeleteJoin the team baby. I'm just poppin' some pop corn for the game! Even cheaper than chips and dip! Heeehehehe!
ReplyDeleteGod bless and have a great time. I only watch for the commercials! :o)
Ditto
ReplyDeleteHubby made me...well asked me...to at least buy him some chips (o:
Poor man. Then his son (25 that lives here) actually stayed home to watch it...amazing. Rich had to share his bag of chips....lol
then my DIL's sister went into labor so she brought the 2 littles over to spend the night. They are a family of young women that all camp out in the delivery room. I just put on 'A Bugs Life' for them to watch and it is...are you ready for this...a VCR tape. Hey they still work and I get them at garage sales for 25 cents (o:
We spent $7 on a giant bowl of potatoe salad, plus $40 in bets...my husband won $75 and gave me $20....so that's our contribution....
ReplyDeleteI thought it was "safe" to go to the supermarket this afternoon for my weekly shopping-- thinking everyone would be ready for the game to start. But was I wrong.... All those 20-somethings were buying cases of beer and loads of chips and dip, so it makes sense to me that that kind of money was spent on today-- As crazy as that is. Sheesh.
ReplyDeleteCheers, jj
My daughter hosted a family Super Bowl party today. We did have chips and homemade chili. We also bet on the game and my grandson won $24. I love live football games, but not so much on TV.
ReplyDeleteI guess neither did we since we merely shared a bag of pop corn. Next year, I think we should get some pizza since I hear that's what everybody gets according to the news.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lot of money! Just think how that could help starving people around the world.. or am I being a total party pooper here? ;-)
ReplyDeleteWe never celebrate or watch the Super Bowl. Always feel like I am missing out.
ReplyDeleteThe last time we watched the Super Bowl was the last time Denver went. We are really behind on our spending too!
ReplyDeleteIt's figures like that which make me boggle at people who rail against the salaries of professional athletes. When you're very directly responsible for helping to generate that kind of cash flow, you deserve your cut, even if you are doing it by "just playing a game" (that you put more effort into perfecting every day than a lot of people put into their jobs in an entire month).
ReplyDeleteOK, true confessions -- I didn't know the Super Bowl was on till I turned into something where they were talking about the ads. I am a bad football girl!
