Dodger is, in dog years, a young teenager now so I guess it had to happen sooner or later....he has his first broken heart.
For the last few months Doc and Dodger have been going nearly every afternoon to the house across the open space behind us for Dodger to play with Sammie, a cute little Corgi. Sammie would meet Dodger at the gate and they would wrestle and chase each other and play for a while and then they would chase after a ball together for as long as someone would throw it. About a month ago things started to change. Sammie would still meet Dodger at the gate and play for a few minutes and then turn tail and go through the dog door into the house. Doc and Dodger started going less often, but the neighbors still called and asked them to come play. Now Sammie doesn't even come to the gate. She immediately goes in the house when Dodger comes into the yard, so they haven't been going at all.
Dodger is broken hearted. Every afternoon at the time they usually went to play he just lays at the back door staring into Sammie's yard. Sammie's owners don't know what happened, Doc doesn't know what happened and Dodger and Sammie, in the way of teenagers, aren't talking. I know his little heart will heal, but it is hard seeing him look so sad. As we all know, that first young love is a hard one to get over.
I will never tell Dodger this, but I think I know what has happened with Sammie. I think she is going into the house to look out the front and watch for the big, sleek, Black Lab that lives across the street. No, I will never tell that to our scruffy, scraggly, broken hearted little boy.
Awww poor Dodger, Sammi is just a tease and a little tart! YOu should place a hit on that Black Lab! JOKING... lol!
ReplyDeleteEEEE gads! You just left me a comment at the same time I left you one!~ CREEPY that is!
ReplyDeletePoor little guy!
ReplyDeleteBut I'm wondering...is it possible that something is actually wrong with Sammie? Like arthritis or back pain? Maybe playing rough with Dodger causes more pain, so she associates the pain with Dodger being there? Just an idea, as it does sound quite strange.
ohh poor thing...come play with Rooster he would love it...
ReplyDeleteI didn't know they had stopped playing. :( Poor Dodge!
ReplyDeleteI didn't know they stopped playing either. :( Maybe Sammie is sick or something? Vista will come play with Dodger anytime!!
ReplyDeletePoor Dodger - he looks so sad.
ReplyDeleteLOL, poor Dodger. Maybe he didn't bring her food, the way to a corgi's heart is through their stomach! but I feel his pain. Koda expects his buddies to be out and about and though he may just bark at them, he still expects to see them. When they aren't they, he looks at me like "what did you do to them?" One can only hope Dodger finds a new love somewhere :)
ReplyDeletebetty
Poor guy! He's lucky to have you and doc!
ReplyDeleteJust popped over for a first visit. Enjoyed my visit, and I'm following now.
ReplyDeletePoor Dodger......
Come see me.
I'm BACK, and read your story, which is moving and made me want cry. I did not realize dogs can show such emotions of hurt, which now makes me wonder if they can forgive.
ReplyDeleteThat's so sad, poor Dodger. The best way to get over a lost love is to find a new one. Maybe a trip to the dog park would do him some good!
ReplyDeleteOh Dodger! You'll find someone to love you for the real you - and not care about appearances.
ReplyDeleteAwww
ReplyDeletesweet post
but I am so darn curious why a dog would do that...are they both fixed???
how personal
don't tell him I asked that question (o:
He looks so sad in that picture!! Hope he feel better soon!
ReplyDeleteThis reads like a novel....Only I like this one better than others I have read.
ReplyDeleteI look forward to new chapters of reconciliation and love flourishing once a gain..
Poor doggies....
Rabbit, rabbit!
ReplyDeleteThis has made me a bit weepy. Poor puppy.
Oh, poor Dodger! You've put me in mind of the adorable Lab puppies I saw today. Had Mr. Fairway not been there to restrain me, I would have adopted the whole litter...
ReplyDeleteI'm hearing Donnie Osmond singing... "and they call it puppy love...."
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend, jj
Awwwwww...poor Dodger! I wish we could get him and Izzy together. She'd give him a good run around the yard! That Sammie...guess she goes for the tall, dark and handsome types...Personally, I think she does not deserve him!
ReplyDeleteBetty just sent us over. You do have such a sweet blog. Poor Dodger...
