For sort of boring reasons I am changing the bank where I have my primary checking account. I have had an account at the same bank for lots and lots of years and for all those years I have had the same Plain Jane checks, no designs, no pictures, no cartoons, just checks.
Of course I have seen lots of fancy checks, but I had never given them much thought until the lady at the bank brought out the book of check designs for me to choose from. How did it never occur to me before that I need checks with Spider Man or Betty Boop on them?
Maybe I take my financial dealings too seriously, but I would just feel silly writing out a payment to the plumber for unclogging a toilet across Winnie the Pooh's face.
Yes, you guessed right, I ended up just getting the Plain Jane checks again, but now I am kind of wishing I'd gone for the M&M's ones.
What's your check style? Are you Plain Jane or do your checks express your personality?

ReplyDeleteTerrific Post!! I am still chuckling..
ReplyDeleteI am the plain Jane type and I also don't want to spend the extra money.
It is also rare for me to write a check, I love the instant internet way...
we have those plain generic ones from the bank. I think the M&M ones were cute! I used to write checks for everything but now use my debit card. Isn't funny how we change our habits and ways of doing things?

Hubby has those plain Jane ones but me....mine have cute little country bears on 'em. I'm just that kinda chick.
ReplyDeleteGod bless and have a marvelous day sweetie!!!
I have plain janes for one account, patriotic ones for the other, and really, no money in either. Ha!
ReplyDeleteMine are just the plain generic ones too although I can't remember the last time that I wrote a check! The M&M checks are adorable!
ReplyDeleteAll bills are paid online and I only write one check each month so the plain old ones are fine for that.
ReplyDeleteOur checks are plain and gigantic because they are made to be printed out on the printer. I carry two with me all the time, folded over like 3 times. People always take a second look. Plain Jane is fine.
ReplyDeleteGreat post! I'm a plain Jane, too! I make most of my payments online these days. I always keep a few handy, though, for those "unexpected" court costs, shoe sales, and unique t-shirt stores!
ReplyDeleteGuess!
ReplyDeleteBaseball themes.
I do like the M&Ms... but i have plain old plain because I figure no one but me sees it...and the people that see a million and really don't care
ReplyDeletethe younger generation think we are dinosaurs for writing a check for anything... we hold up the line (o:
I write very few checks these days but I'm not sure I could take myself seriously with a Superman check-- What a hoot.
ReplyDeleteOnce I had checks with famous paintings-- The bank sent them trying to get to to buy more expensive checks. But in the end-- I'm plain jane too.

Its funny, but I always got "pretty" checks - mountain scenes, flowers, birds, until the last time. Our bank changed as did our account # so we had to get new checks. Since I write so few checks I just got the plain jane ones.
ReplyDeleteI am a plain janer too. I had butterflies in my 20's.
