Heartache and Tears In Our Community

The news is not good regarding the little girl that was missing that I wrote about on Saturday. It was confirmed this afternoon that a body found on Wednesday in an open space area is the body of that 10 year old little girl, Jessica Ridgeway. The search for Jessica has now tragically become a search for a child killer.

I didn't know Jessica or her family, but this tragedy is close enough to me and everyone in the communities in this area to feel very personal. I have a 10 year old granddaughter. She and my oldest grandsons, who are 9 and almost 12, go to school, play soccer, play football and baseball, and play with friends in the community from which Jessica was taken. One of Jessica's neighbors and classmates is on my granddaughter's soccer team. My grandchildren and all the children in this community are being faced with realities that children should not have to learn. Their parents are being faced with the fear and horror that there is someone in the community who did this.

I can only pray for peace for Jessica and comfort for her family and that her killer is found soon.

  1. This is bad news, and you so correctly point out that these things are so hard on the entire community, how sad.

Prey for that little soul and prey that the monster is caught and soon!

  2. Bob and I are sick with the latest news. What kind of person could do this to a child? We need harsher punishment for people who hurt children.

  3. My heart aches for the kids that have to deal with this reality. I pray for her family so that they can begin their closure.

I hope they can find the person soon and that justice is brought swiftly.

  8. It shocks us and hurts us and causes us to hold our children as close as we can. No matter, the sick perverts will find a way around the barriers and we are forced to deny our little ones a care free childhood.

  10. So incredibly sad. I'm keeping the family in my prayers. I think losing a child in this way must be one of life's absolute hardest things to cope with. I pray God provides peace that is beyond our human understanding.

  11. Yes, they are having to face realities that children should not have to face - nor should their families! Remember that post I wrote about Garrett and Conner disappearing down at the end of our street, and them being out of my sight and voice range for the longest 15 minutes of my life? THIS is the scenereo that was going thru my brain as I spun round and round calling for them, this was the kind of story plucked from the headlines that I was screaming at them as we walked back home. One that parents experience every time their child walks out the door. Feeling so bad for her family and community, and hoping that this monster is found soon ...

  13. This is very sad news. I wish we could protect our children from horrors like this. About all we can do is teach them to run in certain situations, and hug them very tight every chance we get.

  14. This touches everyone somehow. I have an 11-year-old daughter. It makes me wonder: Do I do everything possible to protect her? Then I realize that one cannot possibly guarantee that. All we can do is what is reasonable and then pray over them. I know that I am joining many others today in praying for that little girl's parents. And hugging my child...

  19. Oh my goodness glory, I saw on the news and it just broke my heart. I so prayed the outcome would be better. What monster would do such a thing?

Prayin' for the family, I can't imagine!

  21. This has become a national story, as I'm sure you know. It's so sad. Even when one isn't personally involved, you can't help but take such a tragedy personally. I'm so sorry.

  22. I read of this.

It sickens me and saddens me.

I can't imagine hurting anyone...much less an innocent child.

This family has been in my prayers since I read about it.

I pray they will find who did this and prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law.
