My son has been trying to get me to change my E-mail from AOL to Gmail for a long time. As a creature of habit I have resisted, but when over the weekend AOL decided I was a spammer or low-life of some sort and started periodically blocking me from sending e-mails I decided to make the change.
The picture above is the result. I thought it would be simple, but it has not gone well. I got the Gmail account opened, and went about changing my e-mail address in all the places I thought it needed to be changed. It turns out that a Gmail address cannot be a primary address for Blogger (who knew?). I'm not really sure what that means, but it has left me having to sign into my blog with my old AOL e-mail address, but using my new Gmail password. Can you even guess how long it took me to figure that out? I also have to go into Blogger through sort of a back door from the way I used to go in. I figured that out after being told over and over that I do not have a blog.
As it stands now, I still have both e-mail accounts and am getting all of my e-mails, I think, and am getting blog comments in one or the other or sometimes both of them. AOL still tells me from time to time that I am a scumbag spammer and won't let me send an e-mail. I will get some help to get it all figured out, but I called my son so many times over the weekend that he started answering his phone "Tech Support".
If I don't respond to a comment or if I reply three times to the same comment or any other strange e-mail thing over the next few days, please forgive me. (If I send you a blank reply, well, that is just normal...I seem to have been doing that a lot lately).
And, yes, it is okay to laugh.
I'm laughing really really hard, because I'm glad something like this happened to someone else and not me! Last year I deleted my entire Facebook account - photos and friends and all - because of this kind of thing. When changing some security something or other, I accidentally checked something to do with my email address, and just as I clicked it I saw that it said something like 'if you click this you can never access this Facebook account again'. Too late. Had to start aaaaal over again. Boy, did I feel stupid...and, actually, a little mad that that could have happened in the first place. Wonder how many other people that has happened to! Sorry about your mess, and hope it fixes itself soon.
ReplyDeleteTechnology is great.....when it works. I know of your frustration, because I have tech issues too from time-to-time that I can't figure out.
ReplyDeleteHope you get this comment. LOL
Sounds like the same problem I had. I do use gmail for my Blogger account, but when I tried to change the account under which I sign in (I wanted to change from one gmail account to a different gmail account), I couldn't do that. Seems like there should be a way, if only one could find it.
ReplyDeleteOh no! How bizarre - doesn't Google own Blogger?
ReplyDeleteMy advice: use Wordpress instead! Nice and easy and bug-free.
Sometimes there are such weird glitches in our technology.
ReplyDeleteThat's bizarre! Blogger does have many glitches and issues. I would switch to Wordpress if I knew how??? I have thought about it many times but I'm nervous about attempting it. Good luck and I hope you get it fixed soon.
ReplyDeleteOh my! I have a gmail account, but don't really use it. I keep forgetting my password because everything else I am involved with has my charter email account. I keep hearing about Wordpress. I'm willing to give it a try.
ReplyDeleteGood luck. I love your picture! I've had so many days like that!
There's so many "new and improved" (so they say) things out there - but it seems like they take so long to learn and to start using that I tend to put it off until there's no other options.
ReplyDeleteI feel your pain. :)
You don't have it set up right. I wish I could tell you how but I'm not sure. I just stumbled through and it turned out ok. You can forward all your old email from AOL into the gmail act automatically. If you set up a google account as a main account then your blog and mail should all co ordinate just fine.
ReplyDeletegmail is a good system. Go under preferences and options and see what you can figure out, or CALL them and ask for some help. I'm thinking setting up the main google account will help.
oh my
ReplyDeleteMy son signed me up for gmail and says I should love it. I don't for some reason. I still use my hotmail...even though for 2 weeks it was sending all our mail to junk mail....WHYYYY
Hope you get it all worked out soon.
I hate change! So I will stay where I am unless I have to! Good luck getting everything straightened out!
ReplyDeleteThanks for this post, it made me realise how much I don't want to change my email account! I hope it all sorts itself out for you soon.
ReplyDeleteI had to chuckle. I resist change of any kind, especially with the computer.
ReplyDeleteMeltdown??? Yep, technology will do that to ya!
ReplyDeleteTake a step back and things will fall into place. I know these things....I'm strange like that! Heeehehehe!
Hope the rest of the day goes excellent for ya.
God bless you girl :o)
I have gmail and blogger but maybe you ran into trouble when you already had an account with blogger and changed to gmail and you would need to change it everywhere in blogger.
ReplyDeleteI know that when you set up blogger, they used to say you needed to set it up with a gmail account. That it's easier. I have two g-mail accounts and have no problems so far. Thankfully we have sons to help us.
ReplyDeleteSomething is wrong because I sign into blogger with a gmail account.
ReplyDeleteGood luck figuring it out.
I'm not even on Blogger anymore, but I still use it to access my old dashboard and I sign in with my google email account and I get notifications at that email too.
