I've Decided To "Like" Facebook

Yes, Facebook can be very annoying with the constant changes, too many stories about who is playing what game and too many invitations to play with them, the occasional over the top political or religious rant, security issues and so forth. Even with the annoyances, I find a lot of things I "like" about Facebook.

I like that I got to see my son and grandson being goofy at a pre-season Broncos game last weekend.

I like that I got to see pictures from my friend Betty's vacation, even though she lives over 5000 miles away in Paraguay.

I like that I got to hear about my friend, June, who I haven't seen in nearly 30 years, having a home-made ice cream get-together with her kids and grandkids.

I like that I got to see one of my granddaughters going in for her first day of kindergarten moments after it happened.

I like that I got to see my friend Patty "enjoying" her Disney World vacation.

I like that I got to see two of my grandsons on their vacation to Colorado National Monument as it was happening.

I didn't like seeing this picture of my not quite 3 year old grandson, Beck, with his newly broken foot. It is currently in a splint, waiting for a cast when the swelling goes down.

I did like seeing that even a broken foot that he can't walk on hasn't slowed him down a bit.

Compared to most people I don't have very many Facebook friends.  I don't put much on there myself.....I guess I would be considered a lurker, but I like the friends I have and getting to see these kinds of things that I like make a few annoying things not seem so bad.

  1. People like to bash Facebook, some of my older friends actually get angry about it, "I don't do that damn Facebook crap!" Like it is something to be proud of.

Me, I like it too. It can be pretty cool.

  2. Isn't it a miracle when you think about it, Jeanie, all these people and events unfolding around the world right at your fingertips practically in real time? We never even dreamed of the possibility when we were young.

I've always been fascinated with Paraguay and once wrote an essay about the country for geography class. It must be very interesting to have a friend way down there. It looks like our Central Florida heat got the best of your friend Patty. This muggy weather saps your energy in no time flat. Your granddaughter looked precious as she began her schooling. Bless her heart! I'm very sorry to see Beck banged up. I hope his recovery is speedy and w/o complication. I also hope Dodger is doing well and ask that you give him an extra hug from Shady.

Have a safe and happy holiday weekend, dear friend Jeanie!

  3. I am like you - I do not put much on facebook, but I do 'like' what others do - it is a great way to keep in touch with friends near and far.

  4. I have never done Facebook. Most youngsters prefer Instagram, though.

  6. I love being in contact with family and friends through FB. I still enjoy blogging too. Hope you will keep blogging as well. Now I am off to "friend" you:)

  7. Like you, I don't personally post much on facebook, but I sure like reading and seeing pics on my kids and grandkids facebook pages.

  8. I joined Facebook for that same reason, to see what family and friends were up to. I share something once in a while. Finally started using my iPhone, too. About five minutes ago our grandson "Facetimed" us. The kids get too distracted to talk on the phone with any consistency but with the visual contact they are engaged and animated. Technology can be great, when it isn't being annoying!

  10. I don't do Facebook a lot but I don't feel like I can give it up since it's one way I get to see what everybody is doing to. However, blogging is still my first love.

  11. I think I get to see lots of fun things on FB. Like all things "free" it has a price and if you just accept that and deal with it smartly, you can enjoy the benefits.

  12. I know facebook is used for stupid things, and annoying things too sometimes...but all in all, I like it!!! As you said, it lets you be a part of things you would otherwise miss!

I love seeing pictures of my grandkids who live 3 hours away. I love keeping up with my niece who lives in Calif., and the other family members who live in Nebraska, and other parts of the country!

I like keeping up with old friends...and new ones...and I like being able to pray for them when they have problems. :) And visa versa.

When babies are born we get to see the pictures immediately, and we get to rejoice with them...and congratulate them immediately too!

Yup...some of it is not all that great, but I do really enjoy the good things!

  13. Oh poor Beck with his foot! That's got to be hard trying to keep a young one down, so to speak, with the limitations of not walking; hope he can get into a walking cast when they final cast him?

FB is good and bad; I deactivate it only to activate it a short time later; it is a good tool though to keep up with family and friends though :)

  15. Yep, there's a lot to complain about on Facebook, but I do use it to keep up with family members and a few friends. I don't post to it all that often, but I do get my two cents worth in on occasions.

  16. I'm ambivalent about Facebook, though my D-i-L's convinced me to join a few years ago. I post occasionally and comment on updates by my friends and family - but I can take it or leave it. Whatever happened to little Beck?

  17. I love facebook, I've just learned to concentrate on fun and silly stuff with friends and relatives and to not go into the political arena or anything else that may offend people.

  18. I like Facebook too for it's instant connections to friends. But I love my blog more!

  19. I missed this post...sorry, Jeannie! Will you be my friend? I love f/b because it's how I feel connected with my kids who are all 300 miles away. I don't play any games, or get involved with too much sharing, except if it's really funny! Love your pictures!
