Other than enjoying that I don't have to go to work the day after Thanksgiving for the first time in many years I don't really have a plan for today. If I did have a plan it would not include shopping. I admire people who get up really early and have the courage to fight the crowds to get a great bargain. I am not one of those people. I don't like to shop in the best of circumstances so I'm sure I would not be very good at fighting someone for the best bargain at the bottom of the bin.

Just as I was enjoying a piece of pumpkin pie for breakfast I heard on the news that it would take 56 times around an ice skating rink to burn the calories from a piece of pumpkin pie. The little skating rink in our town is smaller than the norm, so it would probably take more times around than I could count to burn those pumpkin pie calories. Besides, I have broken my tail bone too many times to make ice skating a good idea.
I guess I could try a ride in one of the horse-drawn carriages that they have in the area around the skating rink. I would probably have to be one of the horses for that to do me much good calorie-wise.
The town library is right across the street from the skating rink.....that sounds like a much more likely activity for me today.
I just hope I don't hear anything about how many calories a turkey sandwich with cranberry sauce has or what I would have to do to burn those calories
I figure we get one or two free days when burning calories is beside the point. Love the horse-drawn carriages...they look like fun.
ReplyDeleteI went shopping online this morning at 5 AM. Good bargains at jcp.com as well as no shipping cost for even one item. Still I bought 5:)
ReplyDeleteInteresting that my breakfast also consisted of pumpkin pie. My son tells me that Thanksgiving food does not have calories. Our turkey sandwiches are yet to come.
Sounds like you did things just right.
Now why do they have to ruin everything and tell how much exercise we need to do to burn off what we consumed because it was a holiday? Kind of takes the joy out of it, know what I mean? I like the idea of a day at the library myself over skating. But we do have an ice skating rink here at one of the hotels (just for the holidays). The hotel is on the beach; I told hubby we must venture down there to check it out (not to skate but get a picture of it). However, the day was spent, I hope it was a good one!

I agree with you about shopping - I try to have everything done each year before Thanksgiving so I don't have to face the crowds.
ReplyDeleteJust enjoy life and go with the flow. I intend to do just that.
ReplyDeleteIt will take weeks to burn off the Thanksgiving calories... Just in time for Christmas
ReplyDelete56 times??? I'm in trouble since I don't know how to ice skate and a rink would be hard to find in Hawaii. Zumba will have to do. I have had way too many calories today and yesterday. It'll take me months to burn this off. Sigh...
ReplyDeleteI'm not much of a shopper either...I prefer puttering around the house after a holiday...I steered clear of the pie this Thanksgiving...not much of a pie or cake person...but have met a chewy brownie or cookie I didn't like.
ReplyDeleteSeems my most frequent hobby lately are my attempts at losing weight. Wish I could LOSE IT FOR GOOD...but it keeps finding its way back to my mid-section.
Sending hugs to you...any chance you and Doc will head out to Laughlin again any time soon???
Hey as long as you don't do it every day - I think the holidays are a good time to have fun and indulge. sandie
ReplyDeleteI don't even want to think about the calories I "inhale" between Dec. and Jan. UGH!! I like to shop, but I'm not a "pressure-shopper", which means I'm not one who enjoys Christmas shopping. Giving? Yes. Shopping? No.
ReplyDeletePumpkin pie? YES! YES!
Pumpkin Pie for breakfast the day after Thanksgiving.... That's the #1 reason I'm disappointed I don't host Thanksgiving at our house. Next year I think I'll make the pie and just keep it at home for myself :-) I love it.
ReplyDeleteI'm not a shopper either. I just don't have the patience for the crowds anymore.
This might make your shopping a little easier... Stop by, I'm having a Christmas Giveaway!

Looks like you had a nice Thanksgiving Jeanie!!
ReplyDeleteJeanie...your town sounds delightful! Skating rinks and horse drawn carriages! How fun! I'd probably hang out at the library across the street and just grab a good book, and look out the windows at the skaters and those riding in the carriages! I love libraries...and books!
ReplyDeleteI was like you, and I had some mornings after Thanksgiving where either pumpkin or cherry pie was my breakfast, with a cup of tea! (Oh, and I did have some pumpkin bread with whipped cream on a couple of days too...so I am feeling kinda guilty myself!)
I didn't get out in the shopping rush...and as a matter of fact, I have been shopping online. This week I hope to do Christmas Cards...but the warm weather just makes me want to get out and go somewhere!
Maybe the hubby and I will have to get out and play today and let Christmas things wait for awhile. (:>)
Hope you will enjoy your Saturday, since your comment said you are having delightful weather too!
Love, Linda
It's unfortunate that blog reading doesn't burn more calories, if it did I'd be scrawny.
ReplyDeleteAgreeing with Unknown Mami. What a great fitness program that would be. lol
