The "partial" part of my being partially retired has kicked in and I have been working for the last week and a half. Whew! I don't know how I did that every day. I am back to the "retired" part until a couple of days at the end of the month.

My family has been making our way through my favorite season, cake season, celebrating three birthdays since the first of September. My youngest grandson, Beck, turned 2 and celebrated early with a party with lots of friends and a very cool "dirt cake", put together in the back of a dump trunk.
On his real birthday yesterday he celebrated with their traditional "2" pancake. He got his favorite mac and cheese and more cake later in the day.
My son. Rob, and my oldest daughter, Jill, whose birthdays are 5 days apart, celebrated with a yummy ice cream cake. I guess they have gotten so old that a candle for every year might have melted the cake, so they just had one candle to blow out.

My grandkids, except Beck, are all back in school. There were lots of first day of school pictures, but I especially liked this one. EJ wanted an FD, for first day, pancake instead of a P for preschool. Smart girl....she got lots more pancake that way.

Did any one see this? Apparently not very many people saw this Salute to Veterans at a Green Bay Packers game at Lambeau field. The network chose to show commercials instead of this thank you to our military. It was done with cards placed under each seat. It took 90 workers two weeks to place the cards for this show of patriotism. The cards changed several times during the show.

With the start of school fall sports are in full swing for my grandkids. I will have my choice of baseball, basketball, football and soccer games to go to. It is all fun, but I no longer feel like I have to get to all the games.....I pretty much go to the ones that are closest and at the most convenient time.

What a great cake! I've seen that cake done many different ways, but I think this may "take the cake"! ;)
ReplyDeleteI am not surprised the network didn't show that tribute to our troops, but it's wonderful!
Love the patriotic display at Lambeau, though I'm not sure WHEN it happened. There was no game there Monday night. The Packers played the 49ers there on Sunday afternoon and they played the Bears there last night, Thursday.
ReplyDeleteTrust me on this - - - I am a football-a-holic.
September is cake month in our house too. My birthday is next week (the 3d of 3) and I feel like I've already had too much cake. That will not stop me from having more of course : )
ReplyDeleteMmmmm. Love cake, particularly ice cream cake! Congrats to all of the birthday people! Your grandkids are so cute, and your son and daughter extremely good looking. Now that you have more free time, try writing daily on your blog. I click on your name on my Favorites List every day to see if you have. Don't disappoint me!
ReplyDeleteOkay I love fall, but cake season sounds great.
ReplyDeleteSo where do you work when you are not retired?
now that is a cool cake...my hotrod would love that...my husband and his brother are 5 days less than a year apart...almost like twins...
ReplyDeleteI can't believe he is 2!!! Man time flies. That is one giant candle in your kids icecream cake. So fun!!! I have no grandkids in any sports. Kind of miss those days...lol So you have been working lots... hope you get to slow down again.
ReplyDeleteMy grandchildren are all grown and just now I'm learning about fun things like dirt cakes and pancake numbers. Maybe I'll live long enough to make those for great-grandkids....though not in any rush right now. By the way, handsome kids you've got!
ReplyDeleteI want some dump cake. Thanks for sharing the tribute; it's too bad more people didn't get to see it.
ReplyDeletehappy birthday to all the loves in your life! september certainly is birthday month for you!! We watched that Packers game..I wish they would have shown that display of patriotism.
ReplyDeleteyour photos are beautiful.
i am your newest follower..pls follow back if you can.
happy weekend.
Your Grandkids get the best cakes! I like that BIG candle on your son & daughter's cake. I told you that you wouldn't want to go back to work Jeannie. Retirement is too much fun!
ReplyDeleteSo many fun things going on in this post. You do have such gorgeous children and grandchildren. I wonder what it is about mac and cheese. My granddaughter could eat it for every meal and not tire of it.
ReplyDeleteThat was the cutest cake for Beck! I can't believe he is 2 years old already!! Does sound like a lot of wonderful birthday celebrations. I like the pancake idea too for celebrating events (never met a pancake and syrup I didn't like :)
ReplyDeleteI would imagine it would be a bit challenging to get back into the work force, albeit it partially like this, after the "freedom" of retirement; thankful it doesn't sound like "too" grueling of a schedule!
betty
What a happy post! I just LOVE the idea of "Cake Season!" Sounds like it fits with you and your amazing family -- but I think everyone should have cake season!
ReplyDeleteWorking part-time is a great way to make a transition, and to confirm that you really would rather be at home doing your own thing! Love all the photos and the dump truck dirt cake!
