My oldest grandson, Jared, 11, did not have a good day today. He was playing touch football at school and he and his good friend, Ryan, did not see each other and collided when they were going after the same guy.
The playground aide said the first thing she saw was both of them rolling on the ground in pain. When they got them up and into the nurses offices it turned out that Jared had a pretty good head bump and a lost tooth, one that would probably come out soon anyway. His friend, Ryan, didn't fare quite so well....he has a broken nose, presumably from contact with Jared's head.
Of all my grandchildren Jared is probably the most sensitive, so along with spending the afternoon with a bad headache he spent it worrying about his friend. He talked to Ryan later in the day and found out that as soon as the swelling goes down they will put some kind of stabilizing device on the nose and and it will be fine. I think Jared has finally been convinced that it was just an accident and he doesn't have to feel like some kind of bully. Sometimes it is tough being a kid.
Jared is visiting Ryan tonight with treats and sympathy.
Oh my goodness - I hope he recovers fast - it is not easy being 11. So many hard things. sandie
ReplyDeleteHow sweet Jared is to worry about his friend so much. I'm glad they will both be okay.
ReplyDeleteThat's too bad. It's no fun getting hurt like that. As you said, sometimes it's tough being a kid.
ReplyDeleteSuch a sweet boy to worry about his friend. I'm glad both of them are okay.
ReplyDeletePoor little guy...but it's a really valuable life lesson. He'll learn how to resolve this situation and move on with his friendship intact. When I was growing up, girls didn't play sports and didn't learn that lesson very well.
ReplyDeleteOuch! I grew up with two brothers who were always getting hurt. My two sons were hurt, as well. It's so sweet that your grandson is worried about his friend. I'm sure that the friend feels the same way!
ReplyDeleteWhen these guys get older they will look back and laugh about this, but not yet. What a crash!! Glad no one was seriously hurt.
ReplyDeleteOh, gosh - life does change in an instant, doesn't it? Glad the damage will heal for both Jared and Ryan. Someday, it will make a good story for them both.
ReplyDeleteOh, I'm so sorry. I hope they both are feeling better already.
ReplyDeleteOh goodness, poor kid! I'm certain he does feel bad...my son is extremely sensitive too and tends to blame himself for things he has no control over...bless his heart.
ReplyDeleteSounds like Jared is a good friend. Sorry the boys bumped heads but thank goodness it doesn't change their friendship.
ReplyDeleteIt's tough being a kid, but it sounds like Jared is a good one.
ReplyDeleteOh, ouch. You must be so proud of him and his concern for his friend.
ReplyDeleteYikes! That's scary-- the poor guys.
ReplyDeleteMaybe Jared and Ryan can watch Kobe Bryant with the Lakers play basketball. Kobe has a broken nose and is wearing a very cool mask to protect him.

Bless his tender heart!
ReplyDeleteAwwwww, bless his big old heart!!! It's terrible to feel responsible for someones else's pain no matter how old ya are.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad both boys are gonna be fine.
Yep, your right. "Sometimes it's tough bein' a kid!"
God bless and have yourself an excellent week my friend!!!
Oh my!!! He looks so sad in that picture. Boys and football usually involve a broken nose...sooner or later.
ReplyDeleteRich broke his early in our marriage while playing touch football with the boys in our Youth Group. It is still a little crocked (o:
OUCH! I hope both boys are feeling better now. What a sweet grandson and good friend.
ReplyDeleteOh NO! I sure hope both are feeling better soon. My daughter tells me about my grandsons running like ping pong balls all over the playground...and always at full speed...
ReplyDeleteOuch, headbumps, even when you just imagine it, hurts! How is Jared now? There are lots of kids who lose their teeth due to head bumps. We all know that he's a tough kid, and we hope he's doing well now.
