My granddaughter, E.J. looks like a very sweet 2 year old and she usually is.
But she can also have a bit of a mischievous side.
Yesterday when I was staying with her at her house I had to run into the backyard to get their dog, Thunder, who was going crazy barking at some people who were walking by with their dog. Thunder is less than a foot tall, but he can jump their 4 foot fence when he gets excited.
E.J. was watching me from the back door and as I headed toward the door with Thunder in my arms I could tell what she was going to do by the look on her face. Before I could get to the door she closed it and locked it with a big grin on her face. Fortunately instead of panic I resorted to threat. I told her we couldn't go to the mall if she didn't let me in. (That was a pretty big threat because Jared and Justin were meeting us at the mall) . I came close to panic as she stood there and thought about it for a while before finally unlocking the door.
I'm really glad this isn't a much better story ending with me breaking a window or calling 911.
Oh, the cheeky monkey! My kids have done that too. There was a time when I didn't dare go outside without my keys...
ReplyDeleteYes, you can see it on their little faces, and they know it's going to be fun for them and you know it's going to be NO fun for you! And there's nothing you can do quickly enough. I agree, good thing it's not a better story!
ReplyDeleteI thought you handled it just fine! I may have panicked a bit, but you put in into her "ball park" with the fun she would be missing. I'm thinking the next time you might take a key with you?

Oh, she's a pistol. That happened to me once when I was babysitting years ago. The kid locked me out but couldn't figure out how to UNlock the door to let me in. Oy.

Oh my! I'm glad it's not a better story too. That little angel has a mischevious side but all little ones do.
ReplyDeleteit's the ones with angel faces you have to watch out for...LOL...glad you were quick on your feet with the threat...
ReplyDeleteBeen there, done that. Lesson learned......always have Mister Key with you.
ReplyDeleteP.S. My youngest daughter Eryn. We call her EJ too.
Mischievious little thing, isn't she?
ReplyDeleteI have not had that happen to me, however, I have done it to MYSELF!!!
And I needed to go potty??/*/%%++++
That's a good one (o:
ReplyDeleteI just had a good laugh reading Betty's story about forgetting her appointment with church callers. We all fit pretty much in the same category... so normal and human (o:
So happy she understands. Imagine if she couldn't speak yet and had locked you out. I don't know why I thought of that, but she already seems to know the word "mall."
ReplyDeleteWell isn't she a little mischievous spitfire!!!
ReplyDeleteYep, the Mall was probably obviously the perfect threat! I'm so happy you didn't have to call 911 or break a window!
God bless and have a terrific day sweetie!!!
Kids sure do love doing that ....don't they. I think you reacted perfectly! She's a cutie!
ReplyDeleteThe little monkey!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad she unlocked the door.
I remember the day (24 years ago) when I put Steve (1 year old) into the car and before I could put him in his carseat he locked the car doors.. him inside, me outside. !! I panicked and had to ring the AA to come and unlock the car..cos the keys were in it too!
Thunder is a great name for that dog. I am glad it didn't end much funnier, too, but i am picturing it that way.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful girl.
My son has done this to me and has no clue how to unlock the door. I end up having to run to the front of the house and my daughter unlocks the front door for me. Taking the dogs out multiple times a day you can just imagine how many times this happens, lol
ReplyDeleteI think you need to keep their house key in your pocket when you babysit there. And at your house too if that is something she likes to do. One of my grandkids liked to do that too.
ReplyDeleteOh, I am so glad it ended the way it did.
