All I Can Offer

I can't offer any new words of sorrow or eloquence of wisdom to all that has been said about the impossibly tragic school shooting. I can't give any comfort in a personal way to those who are suffering. The most and best I can do with my shock and grief is to offer compassion, love and hope to those who are in my own life in the best way I can.

I don't envy my children who will have to talk to their own school age children about what has happened. There has been a lot of advice in the media about how to do that, but none better than this offered a long time ago by Mr. Rogers. I have always been a fan of his quiet wisdom.

In another word about hope and love, I want to say congratulations to our friend Addison, an 8 year old little boy who is fighting for his own life in a battle with Leukemia. On Macy's Believe Day on Friday he delivered   8960 letters to Santa that he collected from friends showing their hope and love for him, raising $17,920 for the Make-a-Wish Foundation.

I pray for more hope and love in this time of tragedy and for God's blessings on those whose lives have been shattered.

  2. WTG Addison!! That was an awesome achievement indeed!!

It is terribly sad about what happened in Sandy Hook school and the lives forever altered and affected by this tragedy. But I do believe there will always be Addisons and others like him that will go out and be helpers.

In the meantime, we just try to love as we can and treasure what God has given us.

  3. I think that advice from Mr. Rogers is so good. I hope many parents read it and share it with their kids!

  4. There is still much good in the world. I was sent the same photo of Mr. Rogers and the quote that you shared by a friend. The world of today seems so far removed from the world we knew when Mr. Rogers spoke words of wisdom to our children. His words ring true. There were more helpers, and more whose hearts are broken, evident that fateful day in Connecticut than there were doers of evil.

  5. I think there is a time to mourn and a time to laugh. And I know that there are a lot of troubles and hurting people out there - I just think it is a time to pray!!!1

  6. I'm still in shock. I've run out of words. It's all so incomprehensible.

This is such a sad time with so many hearts breaking that I agree, Mr. Roger's words are meaningful. Thanks for reminding me of them.

Hope you're ready for the holidays, Jeanie, and your camera battery is fully charged so you can share the photos with us.

  10. Hi Jeannie, I think it is a wonderful way to raise money for sick children! I too was so grief stricken by the events last week and am now just starting to smile again. Merry Christmas to you and yours!

  11. What a wonderful story -- it lifts us after the tragic events leading into the holidays. May he find healing. And may Mr. Rogers' words always live on. I met him once. He was as real and genuine as he is on TV.
